SPCA Pets of the Week

Vaughn 121488 KK

Meet Vaughn, a 1-year-old, 52-pound Pointer mix. He came to the SPCA of Texas on October 11 because his owners didn’t have proper housing for him. He was kept outside 24/7, and he’s a guy who wants to be with his people. He is a great dog who is good with kids and other dogs. He is playful and energetic, but he has a tendency to get quite shy when you come in to pet him.  It’s actually pretty cute.

Vaughn is a sweetheart who loves kisses and lap cuddles. He is quiet and fun, and he’ll be a great dog for someone.  He has been neutered, micro-chipped and given all age-appropriate vaccinations. Come by and meet Vaughn today. #121488   Continue reading →

Scardello Turns Six

Rich Rogers of Scardellos

Rich Rogers of Scardello

In late October of 2008, Scardello opened it’s doors. They had a crack team of cheese lovers who were ready for anything that came their way. And just like what happens each time they open a new wheel of cheese, they really didn’t know what to expect.

Today Scardello still have an amazing staff of knowledgeable, and enthusiastic cheesemongers, and a case loaded with seriously incredible cheese.  The owners, Rich and Karen Rogers have carefully curated the tiny shop that has flourished into a true Dallas gem offering classes with cheese, wine and even chocolate.  Continue reading →

There’s Something About Mary’s Cafe

by Steven Doyle

As we continue to celebrate Texas Chicken Fried Steak Day we wanted to pay homage to the very best Texas has to offer. To find Mary’s Cafe  you will need to barrel west on I20 to Strawn, Texas. Strawn is about 90 minutes from Dallas, but well worth the drive.  This made our jumbo list of CFS, and once you savor the flavor you will understand why.

One a recent visit we pulled in curbside 30 minutes before Mary opened her doors, but were invited in none the less once she spotted us sitting in our car. Our waitress was busy making her tables ready and offered up a tall glass of iced tea she had just brewed, and that took some of the road dust off our palates as we stared down the menu.          Continue reading →

First Look: Clark Food & Wine Company

DSC05158by Steven Doyle

What happens when you combine a five star chef with one of the funky new spaces on lower Greenville? The child would definitely be called Clark Food and Wine Company, and the chef giving birth would certainly be Randall Warder. Chef Warder has an auspicious resume, working with the Dean Fearing regime at the Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek as executive sous chef for nine years, and more recently as chief concept officer at Romano’s Macaroni Grill.

The cuisine at Clark is more tapas-style, but hearty and more giving than any shared menu in the city. In addition to the shared plates, you will find a great selection of flatbreads, artisan sandwiches and smoked meats. This is definitely how we are enjoying our meals these days. It is a far more interesting date to enjoy a smattering of foods, chef-driven cocktails and a well appointed wine and beer menu with friends and family. Continue reading →
