by Bev Garvin

Bev Garvin is a friend of craveDFW,  a local social media buff and photographer who maintains a pretty cool local site called Urban Epicurious. Bev joins us to celebrate her top 10 favorite food porn moments of the recent past. We will run these over successive days so you may savor each bite.

Since breakfast is quite possibly the most important meal of the day, I had to mention the Breakfast Panini at Il Cane Rosso in Deep Ellum. But this is no ordinary breakfast sandwich, it is very well endowed. You probably won’t be able to eat it all at once, even if you bring a friend along and share.          Continue reading

Drink of the Week: Sambuca

by Katie Minchew

Sambuca. It’s rumored to be Oprah’s humble hangout when in Dallas, so it’s gotta be classy, right? Right. Sambuca is really “top drawer,” despite the long list of occasional less than classy drink names.    Continue reading

Celebrate Chinese New Year In Dallas

by Steven Doyle   photos by Vi Nguyen

The Chinese New Year is the most celebrated holiday on the Chinese calendar. Legend has it that in ancient times, Buddha asked all the animals to meet him on Chinese New Year. Twelve came, and Buddha named a year after each one. He announced that the people born in each animal’s year would have some of that animal’s personality. Those born in dragon years are innovative, brave, and passionate. Salvador Dali and John Lennon were born in the year of the dragon.

At Chinese New Year celebrations families wear red clothes, decorate poems on red paper, and give children “lucky money” in red envelopes. Red symbolizes fire, which according to legend can drive away bad luck. The fireworks that shower the festivities are rooted in a similar ancient custom. Long ago, people in China lit bamboo stalks, believing that the crackling flames would frighten evil spirits.        Continue reading

Total Catch Dinner at CampO

by Steven Doyle

Last evening we were invited to check out the exciting new dinner series at CampO Modern Country Bistro in Oak Cliff  prepared by chef Matt McCallister. The Total Catch owners PJ Stoops and Bill Tellez were at the dinner and introduced each fish McCallister cooked for the capacity crowd. The Total Catch program is a straight forward idea that culls all the by-catch fish that boat captains yield while casting for more common breeds.          Continue reading
