This will be a special way for you to help out the great cause and to get a special dinner for two at home prepared by one of your favorite chefs.    Continue reading

Momentum Reaches Important Landmark

by Steven Doyle    photos by Robert Bostick

It has been a full year for Café Momentum. This week we shared with the joys of the young organization as it lifted up its accomplishments with the same beaming happiness that any proud mother or father might. This past Sunday there were big announcements, bigger surprises and shared joy for each who attended the full-circle dinner with Café Momentum’s first guest chef, Jeffrey Hobbs at his new restaurant, Sissy’s Southern Kitchen and Bar.

Some of the surprises included a fat check from Whole Foods after they earmarked a percentage of a single day’s profit from their Lakewood store. The check would total $4413.00, but was raised to an even $5000 by an exuberant guest. Café Momentum has many of generous guests like this couple as they get ever closer to their goal in raising enough funds to open a brick and mortar restaurant to support these boys in their hour of need.            Continue reading

The Importance Of Momentum

by Jayne M. Chobot      photos by Robert Bostick (taken at Private Social event)

I love my job. I learn and grow with every project I do, with every interaction I have. It has allowed me to have some amazing experiences that I may not have had without it. When I leave my company this September, I will have traveled around the world, spoken one-on-one with world leaders, played with schoolchildren in Cape Town, toured a chocolate factory in Vancouver, danced at a gala in Prague, and biked through Montmartre just hours the after the Dallas Mavericks won the 2011 NBA Championship. I even met my soon-to-be husband through my company, 3 years ago this month. I have the pleasure to work for over a hundred top executives around the world, the smartest and most successful in their industry. My job requires me to function well in high-stress situations, to be diplomatic, organized and self-motivated, and to work collaboratively with a wide variety of people from many different cultures and backgrounds.

Whenever I end up explaining exactly what it is that I do, which is quite often, the next question I am almost always asked is “what kind of background do you have to get a job like that?”

I always smile and simply tell them that I worked in hospitality.   Continue reading

by Jayne M. Chobot      photos by Robert Bostick

Last night I had the absolute pleasure of attending my first Cafe Momentum pop-up dinner, held this time in the sleek and sexy Dee Lincoln’s Tasting Room and Bubble Bar on Cedar Springs Road. Hosting us were the truly lovely Ms. Dee Lincoln, Cafe Momentum co-founder Chef Chad Houser, Oak Cliff Cellars’s JR Richardson, and the guest Executive Chef of the evening, the very talented and charming Chef Juliard Ishizuka of the hosting venue.    Continue reading

Harris and Balke Serve up with Momentum

by Steven Doyle

This past weekend we celebrated another chapter of the pop-up restaurant that should soon be a full on brick and mortar concern. Cafe Momentum, a Dallas-based restaurant and culinary training program working in conjunction with the Youth Village Resources of Dallas (YVRD) to train students in all aspects of working in a restaurant, and is the brain-child of Parigi chef-owners Janice Provost and Chad Houser.

These students would be our waiters, platers, dish-washers and other such jobs that are crucial for a restaurant, giving them valuable experience that can help them get a job in the industry. In fact, several of the students present now have jobs due to their experience of working with such chefs so kudos to all who are supporting the program.     Continue reading

Last Sunday we witnessed the latest edition of the pop-up restaurant with a heart, Café Momentum. For those that follow along each day, you already know that Momentum works with Youth Village.  The young men in the program at the Youth Village are offered  real-world training and hope for not only a career in hospitality, but at life.

The ultimate goal for Café Momentum is to become a full on not-for-profit restaurant that continues to work with Youth Village daily. In the past year many steps have been gained towards the goal, raising nearly $100,000 to date.   Continue reading

McCallister Does Cafe Momentum

by David Donalson               photos by Robert Bostick

Sunday night was the sixth installment of Cafe Momentum, a Dallas-based restaurant and culinary training program working in conjunction with the Youth Village Resources of Dallas (YVRD) to train students in all aspects of working in a restaurant. These students would be our waiters, platers, dish-washers and other such jobs that are crucial for a restaurant, giving them valuable experience that can help them get a job in the industry. In fact, several of the students present now have jobs due to their experience of working with such chefs so kudos to all who are supporting the program.

Our chef for Sunday night is a very busy man, Chef Matt McCallister, who was gracious enough to mentor these students just hours before the official opening of Campo Modern in Oak Cliff. I am sure it has been a hectic few weeks for Chef McCallister but I was glad he made time to cook for all 120 people at Hibiscus on Henderson.    Continue reading

This past weekend we were excited to be invited to the October edition of Café Momentum, the pop-up restaurant with a heart.
