Santa Rampage Schedule for Today

by Steven Doyle

If you didn’t plan for a Santa suit this year, do not despair. You may still join the Santa Rampage tonight and we have their schedule. The rampage begins at Lee Harvey’s at 3pm and will move to the Art’s District at 7:30pm via DART rail and enjoy the various food trucks that will be awaiting them. The trucks include 3 Men and a Taco, Easyslider, Jack’s Chowhound and Cup Cakin. We are told this is where the reindeer high jinx will take place (think pillow fights and the like).     Continue reading →

Meet Chef Michael Ehlert

by Steven Doyle    photos by Robert Bostick

This week we have been examining the newly open Chesterfield. One of the unique gems that is part of the new lounge is chef Michael Ehlert. Ehlert is a recent transplant by way of his girlfriend who somms at Bailey’s Prime Plus. We sat down with Ehlert to find out more of his background and the plans he has for the very tiny Chesterfield kitchen.

Take a leap for the full Q&A and find out about his Top Chef connection, his crappy apartment in Long Island and a detailed look at the new menu he has cooking up at Chesterfield.     Continue reading →

There’s Mercy For That Hangover

by Steven Doyle

There are a few side effects of racing through so many cocktails in the maddening attempt to find the perfect and most satisfying drink. Each week we throw on display some of the best cocktaliers Dallas has to offer. This week it was Lucky’s libations over at the new Chesterfield, the week before it was Matt’s at Tate’s on McKinney. Coming up next we will be sampling the drinks at Oak and the yet-to-open Standard Pour. There is always a new drink to sip, and to be perfectly honest, I like it that way.

But that damned side effect — the hangover. It can often lie in wait, making you suffer through your day in regret.    Continue reading →

Marquee’s New Burger Strikes Gold! (Literally)

by Steven Doyle

Highland Park’s personal top chef, Tre Wilcox sent a lovely missive via Facebook  that displayed some of his experimentation efforts in the kitchen. There isn’t a whole lot to add to the burger that will be sold at Marquee Grill that he didn’t already think about.

Wilcox describes this as a Short Rib-Foie Gras Stuffed Burger with gold leaf aioli, house pickles and truffle parm fries. There is little we can say after reading this, but “damn”.

First Look: The Chesterfield

by Steven Doyle      photos by Robert Bostick

The Chesterfield opened their doors yesterday for lunch and we sent in ace photographer, Robert Bostick for a look-see. As we mentioned before, the room is small with just space enough for about 40 seats. The ceiling is probably taller than it is wide, but behind the bar there is plenty of room for some of the city’s most amazing cocktails produced by “Lucky” Eddie Campbell.   Continue reading →

Chesterfield’s Opens Today for Lunch

by Steven Doyle

We checked out the new Chesterfield’s which opens its doors today and is owned by Eddie “Lucky” Campbell and Ed Bailey (of Bailey’s Prime Plus). The small, but plush lounge is located at 1404 Main Street in downtown Dallas. The look and feel will take you back to Prohibition times. The waitresses even have a flapper-ish look about them at the new bar.

While sampling a few of the small plates offered by chef Michael Ehlert we were also able to taste some of the superb cocktails . The food we were able to try had a Middle Eastern flair and were extremely flavorful and well executed by Ehlert. Think kabobs and falafel. We were also able to sample a foie torchon, so the menu is not just simple bar fare. Early press releases mentioned flat breads and heartier dishes such as braised short ribs. Continue reading →

Social House Hits the Mark

by Steven Doyle           photos by Robert Bostick

Finding a really well crafted cocktail in Addison can be a bit precarious at best. There are a few hidden labyrinths for drinks including either of the Richard Chamberlain restaurants on Belt Line and now, as it would seem, Social House.

Checking in to check out Social House just a few months after opening we found a pretty damned good chicken fried steak. So good we included it on our list of top favorites in the city. But a more recent visit we enjoyed much more.      Continue reading →
