The official Bridge-o-Rama takes place Friday, March 2 to Sunday, March 4, 2012. Limited edition Bridge-o-Rama wristbands are only $5 each but will give you access to deals to these businesses all over West Dallas for an entire month. Before my husband canceled cable on me so I’d stop wasting my life watching endless episodes of Real Housewives and any other soul sucking shows on Bravo, I was an avid fan of Top Chef. To this day, my favorite contestant has always been Chef Tiffany Derry. Maybe it was her infectious laugh, or the fact that she was such a genuinely nice person, or how she always cooked with soul and never tried to be something she wasn’t. Last Day For Discounted Chefs For Farmer Tickets

The latest edition of Chefs for Farmers is Sunday, May 6 2012, and tickets will soon be a hot commodity. The event now boasts over 30 chefs who will create fantastic dishes that will be paired with craft beer, wine and spirits.

The event will feature Stephan Pyles, Dean Fearing and Kent Rathbun and many other area chefs at Lee Park in the Turtle Creek area of Dallas.

A Special Benefit at Zen Bistro and Dessert Bar

Last March I had the pleasure to meet two very fine women who started a bakery in Deep Ellum. I first met their father outside their yet-to-open shop as I was racing across town on foot and noticed the man painting the walls out front of what would become Zen Bistro & Dessert Bar. He invited me in for a chat and quickly scribbled down their names and cell phone numbers. He was excited for me to chat with his daughters.

Just days later I met both Chonnie Richey and Czarina Hounsel, two women devoted to their families, to their business and to each other. They are also so very involved in their community, devoting their time and profits to helping others.

Ironically, one of the charities they have supported through out the time they have been in operation is Children’s Medical Center in Dallas. Continue reading →

Harris and Balke Serve up with Momentum

This past weekend we celebrated another chapter of the pop-up restaurant that should soon be a full on brick and mortar concern. Cafe Momentum, a Dallas-based restaurant and culinary training program working in conjunction with the Youth Village Resources of Dallas (YVRD) to train students in all aspects of working in a restaurant, and is the brain-child of Parigi chef-owners Janice Provost and Chad Houser.

These students would be our waiters, platers, dish-washers and other such jobs that are crucial for a restaurant, giving them valuable experience that can help them get a job in the industry. In fact, several of the students present now have jobs due to their experience of working with such chefs so kudos to all who are supporting the program. Continue reading →

Mardi Gras for Mutts

Metroplex Mutts, an animal rescue organization, is hosting their second annual Mardi Gras for Mutts at Brooklyn Jazz on February 18th from 7:00—12:00pm. Brooklyn Jazz is located at 1701 S Lamar St, Dallas.

Tickets are on sale now for $75 via the Metroplex Mutts website. With each ticket purchase, guests will enjoy an authentic Cajun dinner, as well as a live Blues band, silent auction, the “Krewe de Mutts,” and so much more.

This event will be emceed by Kellie Raspberry from KHKS 106.1. You can also adopt Lucy who is pictured above by going the organizations website. She’s pretty cute. eh?

Greyt Gala Dinner

The Greyhound Adoption League of Texas (GALT) celebrates over a decade of saving greyhound lives March 3 (6:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.) with the 11^th annual Greyt Gala Dinner and Auction to be held at the Hilton Dallas in Southlake Town Square.

This year’s theme Faith, Hope, and Charity, honors three of the many abused injured greyhounds cared for by GALT over the past several years; Faith, a female missing her right ear, was removed from a hoarder (along with her 8 puppies); Hope, a stray discovered cowering under a house near a busy highway on a freezing morning after suffering for months in the open without adequate food; and, Charity, found severely underweight at only 45 pounds due to starvation.
