Enjoy Addison’s Oktoberfest

by Steven Doyle

Last night Addison kicked off their Oktoberfest at 6pm to a large crowd of hungry and thirsty people. Mostly thirsty from many accounts.

You won’t want to miss the Yodeling Competition and Spelling Bee tonight, or the Bier Barrel events on Saturday. The Sunday Dachshund races are a highlight for many. Watching the stubby legged pups run for the gold is a sight to be seen.         Continue reading

Biers of the World at Addison Oktoberfest

by Steven Doyle

The official beers sold at the Addison Oktoberfest are the same beers sold at the Munich festival. So you may enjoy Spaten and Franziskaner under Schloss Addison, a 3,000 square-foot air-conditioned tent that resembles the beer halls of Munich. However, there is a broader choice should you visit the Sporthalle which features non-stop sports and entertainment on the big screen, traditional German food and beverages, and Biers of the World.

In Sporthalle you will find a broader list of brews including Estrella Damm, Sapporo Light, Fireman’s 4, Ommegong Hennepin, Bierra Moretti, Spaten Premium Lager, Pauwel Kwak, Spaten Oktoberfest, Cerveza Imperial, Spaten Dunkel  and Quilmes.    Continue reading

Masskrugstemmen Tonight At Flying Saucer And The Londoner

by Steven Doyle

One of the signature events at Addison’s Oktoberfest is Thursday night’s MassKrug competition.  Four semi-finalists will compete – holding a 1 liter stein full of beer for as long as they can without spilling a drop.  The final winner holds their beer the longest and will a trip to a California Oktoberfest (airfare for two, hotel, and the works).

The game hails from Germany, where it is played at festivals, in biergartens, and even in grade schools. Masskrugstemmen has caught on here in America in the past few years, with regional and national competitions being held around the country. A liter of beer weighs about 5 pounds.  Continue reading

Addison Oktoberfest 2011 Fun and Frivolity

by Steven Doyle

Another wild and wooly Addison Oktoberfest  has come and gone. This is by far one of our top festivals in Dallas, and who could blame us? Beer, Viele shone Frauen, and plenty of food to choose from – most all is pretty damned good.

With a busy schedule this weekend we checked out the festivities on Friday evening, and lucky call on our part. This is when one of our favorite bands were playing, Brave Combo. No Oktoberfest is complete with at least one gallon of beer and a chicken dance, right?      Continue reading
