I have actually met people that have not been to Cane Rosso in Deep Ellum. Some think it is too far for them to travel, others still have an odd impression about Deep Ellum. If you fall into either of these categories now is your chance to take advantage of a day time truck spotting at North Haven Gardens. Continue reading

Happy Anniversary Cane Rosso
We have been following Cane Rosso’s Jay Jerrier since his early days when he was subletting the space at Preston-Forest. He only had his mobile oven back then and made his pizza in the parking lot a few days a week. His product has come a long way since then, and he has enjoyed the adoration of all media.
His Neapolitan pizza is about as authentic as you will get in the country and sports that feather-light crust with slight marks from the heat of the oven and superior toppings. I think it is also fair to pronounce Jerrier “The King of all Media” as he is not camera shy and spends a good amount of his day working the social aspects with FaceBook and Twitter. Continue reading

Vegan Pizza at Urban Crust
by Steven Doyle
We have a substantial vegan and vegetarian readership so we wanted to direct you to the pizza o the month at Urban Crust in Plano. Chef Salvatore Gisellu puts out a great pie and this month is featuring a vegan selection using 100% whole wheat pizza dough and topped with sun dried tomato pesto along with a combination of wood fired vegetables including spinach, portabella mushrooms, rapini and caramelized onions. You may sub out any of the veggies if you wish.
This is a good option for all you suckers who made resolutions, too.

Russo’s Coal-Fired Italian Kitchen Has New Menu and Brunch
Russo’s Coal-Fired Italian Kitchen is giving DFW something to talk about this holiday season, starting with a new menu, brunch, and custom catering service.

This menu is for someone who wants a traditional Italian meal but likes to change it up every once in awhile. There are not many Italian restaurants that can offer 25 well-made pasta dishes.” Continue reading

Fearing at Cane Rosso
Monday night marked another installment of Cane Rosso’s Industry Night at the Deep Ellum restaurant which invites a new guest chef to create a special pizza for the evening. This was one of the most anticipated nights in the series with Dean Fearing offering up his ideas of a great pizza. And how great it was with three pies to choose from.
On the menu Fearing had a buffalo tenderloin, a smoked pork ragu and a barbecue shrimp pizza. Of course I had to try all three. Knowing the vast following Fearing I knew getting there early would be the smart thing to do. Smart move since all of Fearing’s pizzas were sold out by 7:30pm. Continue reading

Social House Hits the Mark
by Steven Doyle photos by Robert Bostick
Finding a really well crafted cocktail in Addison can be a bit precarious at best. There are a few hidden labyrinths for drinks including either of the Richard Chamberlain restaurants on Belt Line and now, as it would seem, Social House.
Checking in to check out Social House just a few months after opening we found a pretty damned good chicken fried steak. So good we included it on our list of top favorites in the city. But a more recent visit we enjoyed much more. Continue reading
