The owner of Snuffer’s Restaurant & Bar is taking another bite of the Dallas burger landscape.

Mike Karns, CEO of Firebird Restaurant Group, LLC, announced today that the company has acquired Village Burger Bar from its founding owners, husband and wife duo Mike and Susan Matta. The transaction closed today. Terms were not disclosed. Continue reading

The James Beard Foundation (JBF) is pleased to announce that tickets for the fifth anniversary year of the Taste America national culinary tour are now on sale. The cross-country program will heat up this fall in 10 dynamic culinary destinations including Austin, Boston, Chicago, Kansas City, Los Angeles, New Orleans, Philadelphia, Phoenix, San Francisco and Seattle.

5-Second Rule: Fact or Fiction

If you’re tempted to eat food you’ve dropped on the floor, you may want to think again: A new study disproved the “5-second rule,” or the idea that food is safe to eat off the floor if you pick it up fast enough, the researchers said.

Turns out, bacteria from a surface can transfer to food very quickly, in less than a second in some cases, the study found.

“The 5-second rule is a significant oversimplification of what actually happens when bacteria transfer from a surface to food,” study co-author Donald Schaffner, a microbiologist and professor at Rutgers University in New Jersey, said in a statement. “Bacteria can contaminate instantaneously.”  Continue reading

Graham Dodds Named Culinary Director of The Statler

The Statler, an iconic downtown Dallas development set to open this fall, announces it has partnered with Dallas-based Epic F&B, LLC to concept and operate all hotel food service, including managing the hotel’s five restaurant and bar outlets, catering, ballroom/event space and room service.

Epic F&B will manage and operate approximately 58,000 square feet of space at The Statler, The Statler will feature five unique food and beverage outlets, each conceptualized by Epic F&B, which will be compelling additions to downtown Dallas. Local chef Graham Dodds will head all kitchen operations as the Culinary Director for Epic F&B. Dodds’ involvement in this partnership comes full circle as he served as the original chef at Bolsa, a restaurant conceptualized and owned by partners of the Epic F&B team.  Continue reading

Celebrate Bastille Day at Lavendou July 10-14

The 228th anniversary of the Bastille storming and launch of the French Revolution will be celebrated with another stellar Fete de la Bastille dinner, served Monday July 10 to Friday, July 14 at one of Dallas’ premier French restaurants, Lavendou.

The Lavendou Fête de la Bastille 2017 menu has fantastic choices among three courses, including:  Salade Frisée au Confit de Canard – curly salad with duck confit; Jarret d’Agneau aux Petits Legumes et Couscous – braised lamb shank with vegetables and couscous.  Dessert selections are Assiette de Fromage – assorted cheese plate; Mousse au Chocolat  chocolate mousse; and Feuillantine des Fruits Rouges  mixed berries in pastry.
