Accompanied by a large orchestra and the Grammy-nominated Stockton Helbing Band, this 140+ person cast and chorus will present a Guys & Dolls that has rarely been produced. Zhang’s Kitchen in Plano for Peking Duck

Zhang’s Kitchen in Plano is a quiet powerhouse, operating with precision in a modest strip mall off Coit. The Peking duck is the centerpiece—no pretense, no ceremony, just a perfectly executed plate delivered with total confidence. The whole duck arrives sliced and arranged on one platter. The skin is deeply burnished, crisp without flaking apart, clinging to a thin layer of fat that dissolves as you chew. The meat is tender, deeply seasoned, and still moist, not hacked to oblivion like lesser versions. There’s no separation of stages—just a complete duck presentation that lets you assemble each pancake how you like, balancing rich slices with cucumber, scallion, and a dark, glossy hoisin that’s more earthy than sweet. It’s straightforward, tight, and deeply satisfying.

Frenchie is Our Go-To All Day Bistro in Preston Center

Frenchie doesn’t make a scene. It doesn’t need to. The Preston Center restaurant is a focused, confident return to form for Bruno Davaillon, the Michelin-starred chef whose precision shaped some of Dallas’ an elegant room, a sharp point of view, and a menu that delivers, dish after dish, with quiet force.

The space is moody but not precious—muted walls, soft lighting, a long bar that is daytime inviting and night-time comfortable. It’s polished but never pretentious. You come here to eat, to linger, to speak softly over serious food. The service is tight, the pace is calibrated.

Help Find Kent Rathbun’s Stolen Smoker

A custom-built smoker trailer belonging to celebrated Dallas chef Kent Rathbun has been stolen, sparking an outpouring of support from the local community.

Rathbun, a four-time James Beard Award nominee, says the bright red, 18-foot trailer—worth around $27,000—was stolen from a gated warehouse near Love Field sometime before July 26. It had been parked outside his catering kitchen off Lemmon Avenue when it vanished.

Joe Leo Fine Tex Mex Makes Our Day

Joe Leo Fine Tex Mex makes a case for why the genre still matters in a city teeming with options. It’s thoughtful, a little theatrical, and utterly satisfying, with food that brings heat, comfort, and some real finesse.

Birdie’s Eastside Burger & Chill

Birdie’s Eastside in Dallas isn’t your average fast-casual patio joint—it’s the kind of thoughtfully-built, low-key masterpiece that feels inevitable the minute you’re there. The breeze hits just right under the shade sails. Kids chase each other between picnic tables while their parents sip crisp natural wines. A golden retriever flops next to a frozen Aperol slush. It’s all intentional, and it all works, because behind the easygoing aesthetic is restaurateur Jon Alexis, a man who knows the Dallas dining scene inside and out.

HIDE Returns with Style to Greenville Avenue

After a pandemic hiatus and a move from Deep Ellum, HIDE has found new footing on Greenville Avenue, reemerging in 2023 with a refreshed vibe, a tighter menu, and the same commitment to quality cocktails and craveable food. It’s less gritty than its original home, but no less confident.

The space is sleek without being cold—dim lighting, leather accents, and a bar that invites you to stay for more than one round. The cocktail list is sharp, modern, and intentionally built. Classics are given thoughtful twists, like the Freezer Old Fashioned, served table-side and perfectly smooth. Seasonal spritzes, clarified juices, and house infusions round out a menu that’s serious but not showy.
