Café des Artistes Opens Nov 6 With Richard Silva As Chef *Update*

by Steven Doyle

Alberto Lombardi announced the opening date of his latest concept, Café des Artistes, a French inspired concept that is being fitted at the Screen Door location in One Arts Plaza. The official opening is Tuesday, November 6th and promises romantic evenings pre and post theater dining, lunch and Sunday brunch.

We checked out the building for progress and noticed the chef will be Richard Silva who was formerly scheduled to open The Greek which is located across the Plaza.

** Update: Word from Nancy Nichols at D Magazine and SideDish is that Silva is not at Cafe Artistes as was reported. Now the mystery continues. Donde esta Silva?

The Greek Opens In One Arts Plaza Monday *Update

by Steven Doyle

The Greek will open its doors this Monday, October 15, 2012 just in time for lunch service. Look for Look for inexpensive pitas such as the sliced leg of lamb on a grilled pita, onions and Ziziki sauce, or steak and egg with grilled skirt steak, polenta and an over-easy egg.

We sat with owner Mary Cloutier-Arabatzis, who with her chef husband also own Ziziki’s three locations throughout Dallas, and she was excited about the newest location in One Arts Plaza which formerly housed The Commissary. Mary took us on a tour of the new restaurant which has expanded to serve just over 70-seats indoors and about half as many outdoors on one of the two patios.     Continue reading

Café des Artistes Slated To Open In One Arts Plaza

I didn’t want to jump on the feeding frenzy at One Arts Plaza, but I just got a press release earlier this afternoon I thought I would share. CraveDFW normally steers clear of stories that are buzzing around the net and more often than not try to generate our content from scratch.

However you might like to read a portion of this release that discusses Lombardi’s attempt to take over the world. Well at least a small part of the Dallas restaurant world.         Continue reading

Commissary Closes, Meze Slated To Open In September

by Steven Doyle

The famed Commissary opened by chef John Tesar has closed its doors and in its place will open Meze which will be owned and operated by Costa and Mary Arabatzis. The Arabatzis family also operate Zizikis with several locations fond across Dallas.

The Greek concept will open in September of 2012 in One Arts Plaza, Dallas.

The family sends out word in a press release, “We couldn’t be more excited to be debuting our new concept, Meze, within the One Arts Plaza community.  We feel this is a good fit for the business lunch crowd, the perfect spot for a date night or for a pre or post performance bite.”

Meet the New Exec Chef At The Commissary: Ross Demers

by Steven Doyle

We just met the latest executive chef to run The Commissary since chef David McMillan took over the spot from John Tesar. Tesar sold his stake in the business to pursue his next restaurant challenge, Spoon in north Dallas. The new chef is Ross Demers and you quite possibly heard of him from Mi Piaci in Addison.

Demers was classically trained at the Cordon Bleu in Los Angeles and has been cheffing for the past eight years.

We asked what sort of changes the chef had in mind and he had plenty to offer.      Continue reading

One Arts Plaza Competes With Food Trucks

by Steven Doyle

Due to construction concerns the food trucks on Flora that were located between the Myerson and Winspear on Flora have moved just a city street away to the vacant lot at Flora and Leonard. The small distance offered the group of restaurants located at the east end of Flora in One Arts Plaza a boost of fresh energy and a group of takers for lunch on the Plaza.

Chef David McMillan reports that his pig cart located in front of his restaurant Screen Door has taken on more customers each day. McMillan offers a plate of smoked pork and trimmings for less than $8, making it a true bargain for quick lunch time diners in the area.               Continue reading
