Nosh Brunch with Chef Jon Stevens
We visited with chef Jon Stevens of Nosh Euro Bistro this past Sunday after enjoying a few of the brunch menu items. It had been a long weekend and chef Steven’s new menu fit the bill perfectly.
Although I had met Stevens in passing a few times previously, this was the first opportunity to find out more about the chef.
Stevens is originally from the San Francisco area, one of the great food cities in the United States and was mostly self-taught. The chef starting cooking at the age of 19 with his uncle who was also in the business. It was this uncle that gave Stevens the advice to pass on formal training as the city was bursting with great culinary experiences and the best way to learn was to do. Continue reading

A Cool New Must Have App: BestBuzz
by Steven Doyle
Carrie Layne is quite the entrepreneur, something that she has had the knack for since a little girl. But what makes Layne so crave-worthy is not only the fact that she has traveled the world with great success, survived a category 5 hurricane but was instrumental in starting up more than a few profitable businesses including the new BestBuzz, the hyper social mobile app that creates positive “buzz” about local businesses and restaurants and has the uncanny ability to fill each quickly.
Layne graduated UT Austin’s Advertising program in 1999 with an emphasis on interactive media that has laid the ground work for her passion that started Buzz. After graduation Layne set her sites on San Francisco advertising firm, Saatchi & Saatchi that boasts over 140 offices worldwide and has such clients as Wendy’s, BMW and Toyota. She won the position by what her future employer would call moxie. A more modern term might be stalking. Layne discovered the private number for her director and called him often until the firm relented. Continue reading

Pappa Bros Wine Tasting – What Would We Drink?
Have you ever gone to a restaurant with a good wine list and wondered: “what would the sommelier drink?” Well, we finally got a small view of what the sommelier’s at Pappa Bros. Steakhouse would like to drink. Here was the list for the tasting:
There were some interesting notes on the wines at the tasting. First of all, Grenache was a well represented grape, scoring ¼ of the wines in the tasting (the Rose, Gigondas and the Calatayud). I have to say that I agree with their selection because these were some of the tastiest wines available, especially the Rose and the Gigondas. This was a great way to experience what real rose should taste like. Believe it or not, a pink wine does not have to be sweet! The rose was a wonderful mixture of cherry, strawberry and red apples, mixed with white pepper and herb. It even had a nice minerality carrying through the palate that made it sing. There was zero sweetness in this wine yet it was the big winner for me. Continue reading
Play Dead – Puts the Sexy in Zombie
by StealingKittyThe interesting group outside of Bows and Arrows caught this girl’s attention last Saturday Night. William Binnie and Tammy Coleman’s show “Play Dead” was opening, featuring 23 Artists on Death and Dying. Can you say sexy zombie meets Joey Seeman’s canvas?
The piece that stood out was a large painted piece featuring a sexy bikini clad zombie on wood using acrylic paint. The background is red, with stenciled images, featuring roses and other flowers. The sexy lady is painted blue with a darker blue stencil on her body. All the sexy details of this piece continued to thrill and excite you as you stood captivated by the spell this sexy lady was placing you under. Continue reading |
