Vegan Girl Finds Molly Maguires

by Melissa Brenner

Everyone knows I love whiskey, as every good Irish girl should. So, scotch hits into that category. It is super delicious, even though they make it on the wrong island. It’s not a good idea to drink scotch on an empty stomach, but also hard to find vegan eats at a bar that has a good scotch selection. Lucky for Dallas vegans we have Molly Maguire’s.

Touting the best scotch selection in Dallas is a one of the fastest ways to get me to show up at your bar (or anywhere, really). Offering vegan options along with that scotch is the best way to get me to return. This is the beauty of Molly Maguire’s.  Continue reading →

Asador Fresh and Local

by Steven Doyle

The way I dine might be perhaps a bit different than your methods.  I am all about big flavors and small plates. I like variety, spice and sizzle. Recently I meandered into Asador at the Renaissance Dallas Hotel for a look-see and found a lot of what I enjoy about a restaurant.

Immediately when walking into Asador you think Texas. Cowhide backed chairs, large open crevasse of a dining room, greeted by an open kitchen where you can see the flames kiss your meal before being served.

Speaking with chef/ owner Dean Max you get the concept quickly. He speaks about local, and that is a phrase that can often be bandied about to the point of abuse. But when Max speaks about local he is speaking about his youth and heritage. Continue reading →

Ask Toni: The Modern Case of BBD‏

Toni,

I recently met this guy and since then we’ve been out on a few dates.  When we’re alone he’s wonderful and attentive, but whenever we’re out in public I can’t keep his attention.  He constantly scans the room while I’m speaking, and he’s not even aware of what I’m saying.  I don’t understand what I’m doing wrong to make him behave this way.  I’ve tried switching seats so that I’m the one facing the door, but it didn’t help much.  We haven’t been dating long so I don’t know if this is something that will eventually stop, but right now its driving me nuts and making me feel so insecure.  I really like him, but I just can’t keep vying for his attention.  How can I fix this?

New Feature: Weekly Wine Q&A

by David Donalson

I remember when I first got into wine, buying wine was such a daunting task. Walking into a wine store and seeing bottles in different languages and labels can be extremely overwhelming. What is the difference between shiraz and syrah? How about Nebbiolo, Barolo and Barbaresco? The answer to both questions is that they are the same grape but different areas. But how are people who do not study this for a living supposed to know?  Continue reading →
