Join the Dallas Santa Rampage

by Crave Staff

Dallas Santa Rampage is a flash mob that meets a Santa-themed mobile party. The group of fledgling Santa’s have met for the past 10 years and the sleigh full of Santa’s has swelled to a belly busting 400+. Now is your chance to be part of this phenomenon on December 17, 2011.

The meeting place for the Santa’s is always a secret, just as the various destinations for the evening. Clues have been released on Facebook, but the details are a bit foggy. Perhaps a red nose can figure that the path will follow the light rail as they ask you have a pass ready for the night.          Continue reading

Circus Freaks Each Monday in Richardson

by Steven Doyle

Mondays often bring with it a bit of despair as we anticipate the coming of paperwork, traffic woes and the end to the weekend debauchery. But it doesn’t really need to be this way. At least for a troupe of at least 50 revelers that gather in Richardson each week at The House of Poets located next to Peace Pipe Hookah Lounge.

Circus Freaks is an extension of Creative Motion, a group of jugglers who were looking for a home when the owner of the Lebanese restaurant and the Richardson hookah lounge offered up his available warehouse space. This was the birth of Circus Freaks, or better known as Open StageContinue reading

Dallas Farmers Market Friends Hoedown Lowdown

by David Donalson

As I walked into the Food and Fiber Pavilion at Fair Park, my wife looks at me and says “I remember this from last year. Hope this year is just as good.” Last year highlights were Randall Copeland’s AVA and now Left Bank, Matt McCallister (with editor Steven Doyle acting as a sous chef) who was then with Stephen Pyles, and Balcones True Blue corn whiskey from Waco. This year had a lot to live up to.

How can you pass up Mr. Lemley’s tomatoes and other produce? All I know is this guy can grow groceries! We need a moment to savor this food porn.

Oak Cliff Cellars Releases Wine at Special Parigi Dinner

by Steven Doyle

Oak Cliff Cellars is the California wine based in Oak Cliff.  Confused? Don’t be.  Many wineries in Texas are using California grapes. In 2007 the owners of Oak Cliff Cellars opened and are a fully-bonded commercial winery, specializing in small lot production of premium Northern California wines with less than a few hundred cases each of our favorite varietals — Petite Sirah, Zinfandel, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay.

You can find the Oak Cliff label at some pretty special location in DFW including Bolsa, The Grape, The Mansion and Parigi.    Continue reading

Dallas Beer Week Starts Nov 12

by Steven Doyle

Dallas Beer Week is upon us and craveDFW plans to be your source for all things beer during the coming week leading up to the first events beginning this weekend.  For the past few weeks we have been scouring the city in search of the best places to have a good craft beer during the nearly 90 (and growing) activities planned so far.

We chatted with Cathy Rascoe, the organizer of Dallas Beer Week and she said, “It has been a true labor of love for us and we are really excited that the Dallas craft beer community has embraced it. We really hope to make everyone proud and happy with the results this year and for several years to come.”

Rascoe also was the organizer of Houston’s very successful Beer Week.   Continue reading

A Very Special Charity Underground Dinner

by Farah Fleurima

I’m pleased to announce that I’m co-hosting a fall-themed Underground Dinner with Chef John Kleifgen on Nov. 5. The intimate, five-course meal will be a great chance to get a taste of Kleifgen’s culinary stylings ahead of his gig at the upcoming, beer-centric Union Bear resto in West Village. Once guests RSVP, they’ll learn not only of the event’s location (eventually), but also of some fun surprises we have in store at sup time. Should be fun! Get thee to the interwebs to buy your ticket, at http://flavorsoffall.eventbrite.com.    Continue reading

Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow: Do La Mancha

by David Donalson

I have been in this industry long enough to see regions die (I am talking to you Australia, hope to see you again soon) and regions suddenly spike in popularity. At Tex-Som, there was a focus on wines from South Africa and from Greece because these might be the next big areas to hit the market but I had to agree with Doug Frost, MS that the next area to hit it big is the area that is already booming, Spain.

Since the EU has allowed La Mancha to irrigate their lands, there has been a rapid interest growing in this arid climate. Known best for making the neutral-tasting Airen for Spanish brandy, this area is primed to explode on the world market as the next great buy at your local retail shops.            Continue reading
