Last night I attended an invite-only bash thrown by Hennessy to celebrate its limited-edition bottles designed by NYC artist KAWS. It took place at my favorite downtown party venue, the PM Gallery, and the scene was funky. The walls were emblazoned with snippets of KAWS’ bottle art and a display of the special containers anchored the room.

Spam, Spam, Spam, Spam at the Fair
With the first full weekend of the Texas State Fair behind us today brings a bit of whimsy in the Creative Arts Building as we celebrate everything made with Spam. Considered by most one the more unusual and most exciting food events at the Fair outside the traditional pie contest.
We stopped by this morning to visit the Spammers as they rolled out a large variety of Spam dishes, including an Eggs Benedict, tacos and a whole host of pastries. Continue reading

Addison Oktoberfest 2011 Fun and Frivolity
Another wild and wooly Addison Oktoberfest has come and gone. This is by far one of our top festivals in Dallas, and who could blame us? Beer, Viele shone Frauen, and plenty of food to choose from – most all is pretty damned good.
With a busy schedule this weekend we checked out the festivities on Friday evening, and lucky call on our part. This is when one of our favorite bands were playing, Brave Combo. No Oktoberfest is complete with at least one gallon of beer and a chicken dance, right? Continue reading

Pop-Up Dinner Fun and Excitement
This past weekend we visited one of our favorite pop-up chefs that we spoke about on craveDFW last week, Nicole Van Camp. Nicole is a firecracker chef that we have set sights on to make it big on the Dallas dining scene and she has already taken strides in that direction.
Having worked at Nana (where her husband is sous chef to Anthony Bombaci) and Bolsa, Van Camp has a great insight into top cuisine and possesses a great imagination for local products. Continue reading

Despite its name, the Addison Oktoberfest is a 4-day celebration that coincides with the celebration in Munich, which is a 16-day festival that ends on the first weekend in October and runs September 15-18, 2011. Restaurant Week – Bolla at the Stoneleigh
Hidden just south of the Scottish Rite Hospital in Dallas is the beautiful, historic Stoneleigh Hotel. With a facade dating back to the 1920s and a modern interior, this is a perfect little spot to drop in for a drink after work or a romantic weekend getaway. Settled in the corner of the first floor of the hotel is Bolla, a 3 year-old restaurant I had never heard of until I saw their menu on Restaurant Week. Time to go see what Bolla was all about.

Two New Restaurants in Watters Creek
If your stomping grounds are further north of Dallas, say in Allen, you’re about to get a tasty addition in the Watters Creek shopping compound. The resort-style complex is known for their unique boutiques with a few independent and chain eateries, so the new restaurants currently building out will make a welcome addition.

Down the Hatch
by Steven Lindsey photos by Rod Orta
Next to Christmas, opening day of the State Fair, and that new-car smell, one of my favorite things in the world is Hatch Green Chile Season. It’s a brief time of year when one of the best food-enhancers in the world reaches its peak. From local grocery stores roasting the fiery suckers to restaurants creating hot new menu creations, Hatch Chiles are a thing of culinary beauty.
And Jorge’s in One arts Plaza is keeping things fresh and simple with two new menu items highlighting the pureness that is Hatch. What I wasn’t expecting was a cavalcade of cocktails courtesy of Nacho, the creative genius behind a new era of creativity behind the Jorge’s bar. The drinks just kept coming. And coming. And coming.
