Tacos and Tequila Tour April 14

I rarely ever talk about personal business on craveDFW but I want to share a little story that, to me, is a bit fun and involves history.

Eight years ago I had an idea that was born from my weekly habit of taking friends around Dallas for mini food tours. We would start about noon and bounce around town sampling various dishes that I thought were relevant that week. These were always fun and involved simple bites shared at maybe four or five hot spots around town. Continue reading

Pazzo Bringing Joy To Uptown

pazzo1aby Steven Doyle

The word for “crazy” in Italian is Pazzo and Pazzo in Uptown is now known for a bit of craziness. Late night people know Pazzo as a superb club, located in the back and occupies as much space as the front of the house. This is where you will find the ultra chic, renowned DJ’s and bottle service that packs the house many nights of the week.

The space up front, all unsuspecting of the craziness that goes on behind the hidden doors of the club is this elegant and lovely restaurant, decidedly American-Italian, that serves up insanely good food and cocktails.  Continue reading

White Rock Ale House Beer Release Party April 14th

beer.jpgby Steven Doyle

In December of 2017 we ran a first look story of White Rock Ale House with the promise that they would be bringing in equipment to brew their own beer. That time has arrived.

Founders Dave Kirk and Greg Nixon are friends and entrepreneurs with a love of the craft beer movement who created their concept to fill a gap in the market. They’ve witnessed the craft beer world evolving around the country and in Dallas, too, with breweries opening locally – but with few options in the stretch between East Dallas and Garland. The Joy of Ballpark Food: From Hot Dogs to Haute Cuisine

texasby Steven Doyle

Baseball is a game that is identified with food. We even sing about it at every ballpark during the seventh inning stretch: “….buy me some peanuts and Cracker Jack…” The famous song was written by Jack Norworth in 1908.

From the early part of the twentieth century until the 1980s, classic baseball fare consisted mostly of hot dogs, ice cream, peanuts, and Cracker Jack. Then ballparks slowly began to sell new items. A proliferation of new food offerings during the 1990s was fueled by the opening of twelve new major league ballparks.   Continue reading

18th and Vine For KC BBQ Experience

18th1by Steven Doyle   photos by Melissa Aloof

It doesn’t seem all that long ago that 18th and Vine opened on Maple Avenue in an area that seems in constant state of construction across from the gowing old Parkland hospital (now a burgeoning office complex). This is just a few blocks from the Grapevine bar if that helps locate the restaurant on your mental map.

We visited 18th and Vine, operated by chef and restaurant power couple Scott and Gina Gottlich formerly of Bijoux and Second Floor fame. I adore this couple, not only for knowing how to run great restaurants, or the fury of talent (he a chef, she a sommelier), but for being a genuinely fantastic couple who also tend to their growing flock of a family.  Continue reading
