Venerable Dallas chef Josh Black will be hosting a special dinner with a show at The People’s Last Stand in Mockingbird Station January 21, 2014. Black is teaming up with People’s chef Ben Leath for a special 5 course and 5 cocktail pairing. Each chef will have their own bartender for the pairings. Josh Black Is Back And On A Seafood Binge
I spotted chef Josh Black a few nights ago while he was sipping a tall cocktail at his old stomping grounds, The People’s Last Stand. There has been a few pop-up dinners recently that Josh produced, but he hasn’t been in a steady kitchen since he left FT33. You know Josh from such restaurants as Stephan Pyles, CampO, and he even helped open Cedars Social with John Tesar. Yea, you probably forgot that Tesar opened Cedars just before he did the whole Commissary gig.

Check Out Josh Black’s Pop-Up Beer Brunch At The Bottle Shop May 19
You know chef Josh Black. He has worked the kitchen at Stephan Pyles, was the execuchef at Campo and more recently headed up kitchen duties at People’s Last Stand. I saw Black at an event recently where he told me he has taken time to be with his family for a bit, but we seem to see the nose-to-tail chef out doing more pop-ups and charity events than ever before. The Bottle Shop Above Ground Dinner Tonight
There are three culinary amigos afoot tonight and it’s not too late to join in on the action. Josh Black from People’s Last Stand fame along with Scardello cheesemonger Ali Morgan, and Stephanie Roethlisberger of The Bottle Shop are all three hosting an Above Ground Dinner tonight at The Bottle Shop located on Greenville Avenue.
The dinner is $65 and includes five courses along with five well chosen beers and five fantastic cheeses. The dinner is tonight, so you best call Stephanie at The World Beer Company’s Bottle Shop now for a reservation. We have the menu after the jump.

Chef Josh Black Lands At People’s Last Stand

We have been following Josh Black since he was at Stephan Pyles, and eventually landing the executive chef position at CampO. Recently Black made off and scored the lead kitchen duties at the People’s Last Stand located in Mockingbird Station. At first this seemed like an odd choice for someone trained as well as Black, but upon further inspection it made glaring sense.
The down side for a chef at People’s Last Stand is that there really isn’t a kitchen. The space was built for a cocktail wonderland, and certainly the staff has excelled greatly in that department. A recent visit had me sitting on the edge of my seat as general manager and lead bartender Omar Yeefoon, formerly of Cedars Social, was perfecting a made-from-scratch tonic. He had several vials sitting out and was conferring with his staff to see which they might be serving that evening. They were all good, of course. Continue reading
