Award-winning Texas Cheese at Celebration

How could fine cheese, wine, and bread be any better? If they are award-winning Texas cheeses, artisan bread and fine wine provided free at Dallas’ Celebration Restaurant, they can! Several Texas cheese makers competed at the American Cheese Society’s August 2011 conference and brought home well-deserved awards. Mi Chula is a Fresh Oasis in Plano
Last week we were in Plano and on a hunt for lunch. In the familiar surrounding of Preston near 121 we were looking for something new to taste having enjoyed Holy Grail Pub and the numerous Indian and Middle Eastern haunt in that area. At once we spotted Mi Chula and suddenly was stricken with the desire relleno, the greatest quality control dish at any new restaurant we wish to sample.
Mi Chula was founded in late 2007 by a team of restaurant innovators including Joey Shashy, founder of Uncle Julio’s. When Joey sold Uncle Julio’s several years ago, he was still committed to exploring new ways to bring great Mexican food to the DFW market. Continue reading

First Look at Bistro 31

Alberto Lombardi seems to collect restaurants like a grandmother collects snow globes and Hummel’s. Bistro 31, the latest addition into the fold of the family of restaurants, quickly found its way to the prized spot on the mantel.

Ali’s Cheese Pick of the Week
We have enjoyed working with Ali Morgan from Scardello so much in the past as she helps us with cheese, and even beer selections, that we have asked her to to write a weekly column on both beer and cheese. I think you will enjoy her picks. We hope she is able to write a weekly column, but the spunky girl stays hopping busy so forgive her if she misses a few deadlines.
The first cheese I want to showcase is one of my favorites, Tea Hive by Pat Ford from the Beehive Cheese Company out of Utah. I have been fortunate enough to have the opportunity to hang out with Pat several times since I first dove into the cheese world in 2009, and let me tell you, he is just as brilliant as his cheese is! Couple Lost in Corn Maze
Last Monday while most of the country was happily celebrating Columbus Day a young couple and their 3-month old child entered a corn maze for their first family on a farm just outside of Boston.
The family entered the maze Monday afternoon and later that evening the family was still wandering the maze, scared, hungry and bitten by mosquitoes so they finally decided to call 911 an hour after the maze had closed for the day. Continue reading
