Chef Jermaine Brown Named Executive Chef at Julia Pearl

As Julia Pearl Southern Cuisine readies to open its doors in Plano, the restaurant is pleased to announce its Executive Chef, Jermaine Brown. Chef Brown comes to Julia Pearl with a wealth of experience working in top kitchens and with top chefs around the state, including Culinary Director Tre Wilcox, with whom he’s worked at a number of celebrated concepts.

Chef Brown got his start at Brennan’s of Houston, where he earned his stripes as the lead line cook and banquet chef. Moving on to Dallas, he continued his development in the kitchen at Abacus, Kent Rathbun’s award-winning restaurant, where he worked his way up from line cook to Executive Sous Chef. Chef Brown has also held Executive Sous Chef positions at fine dining spots including Marquee Grill and Loft 610. With more than 16 years of culinary experience, his rich background and diverse skill set made him the perfect choice for Julia Pearl.   Continue reading

Stewpot Alliance ‘Soup’s On!’ Jan 19th

The 8th annual Stewpot Alliance Soup’s On! Luncheon and Art Sale will be held Tuesday, January 19, 2016 (11am-1:15pm) at downtown Dallas’ historic Union Station. Featured speaker is Collins Tuohy, whose life was chronicled in The Blind Side.

The Stewpot Alliance Soup’s On! Luncheon and Art Show features a dozen of Dallas’ finest chefs serving up a signature soup as the first course of the meal. Chefs include Chef Chairman Brian C. Bisous Bisous Celebrates The Season With A Gingerbread Tower

Chef-Owner Andrea Meyer and a team of ten has completed a Gingerbread Eiffel Tower, now on display at the Parisian-inspired Bisous Bisous Patisserie.  The 42” replica took more than a month to construct with some elaborate pieces taking more than 4 hours to carve.  The team used woodworking templates for scale and hand cut each piece before baking.

With a nod to the intricate storefront displays throughout “The City of Love”, the Eiffel Tower, complete with lighting will be on display in to the New Year.   Continue reading

Christmastime at the Dallas Arboretum is Filled with Surprises

The Dallas Arboretum Children’s Adventure Garden presents many opportunities for holiday experiences before it closes for winterization beginning January 4 through the opening of Dallas Blooms on February 27. Before then, Children’s Adventure Garden guests will be busy with many special activities to close out the year.

On Saturday, December 19, guests can use science to prove the case for the holiday’s favorite cookie-lover, Santa Claus. Starting at 11 a.m., guests will get to use science to answer questions like, how does Santa’s sleigh fly? How does he fit down all the world’s chimneys? How does he not burn himself in the fireplace? The Case for Santa Claus program will take place in the Children’s Adventure Garden’s Entry Plaza.   Continue reading

Coffee & Beignets At Haute Sweet This Saturday

One of our very favorite patisseries is Haute Sweets at 10230 East Northwest Highway in East Dallas. This fairly new bakery is steeped up with delicious pastries such as macarons, specialty cakes, cookies, and cupcakes. They also feature some tasty paleo and vegan items for those so inclined. Each month Haute Sweets rolls out their red carpet and features Coffee & Beignets on starting at 10am continuously until they sell out. Newly Opened Bangkok Thai In Richardson Offering Limited Saturday Thai Tea

Bangkok at Beltline is a second location for restaurateurs and sweet couple Joe and Sunny Pumphaung.  Bangkok at Beltline is a casual Thai restaurant serving authentic Thai cuisines with an added fun and elegant Thai twist to the traditional afternoon tea on Saturdays.

Expect the usual traditional Thai noodle, curry and rice dishes like their popular Pad Thai or crabmeat (real crabmeat) fried rice on the menu but also Afternoon Thai Tea.  This concept was their way of serving Thai food in a modern style but enjoyed in a classic manner.  Guests can truly sit back and enjoy Thai teas and food.     Continue reading
