Fluff Bake Bar In Houston Makes Us Smile

fluffby Jennifer Thomas

I know we do not chat much about Houston very often, even though they are truly packed with these amazing restaurants and watering holes, but we  absolutely must tell you travelers, and the few Houstonians we know who read us, about Fluff Bake Bar.

Born in Laramie, Wyoming (isn’t that where Michael Martensen is from?), Rebecca realized at an early age that baking would become more than a hobby. In 1999, she attended Le Cordon Bleu in Paris, France, earning a Diplôme de Pâtisserie and soon securing a coveted internship at Hotel le Bristol. While there, she accompanied Executive Chef Eric Frechon to New York for French consular events.  Continue reading

Chef-Owner Andrea Meyer and a team of ten has completed a Gingerbread Eiffel Tower, now on display at the Parisian-inspired Bisous Bisous Patisserie.  The 42” replica took more than a month to construct with some elaborate pieces taking more than 4 hours to carve.  The team used woodworking templates for scale and hand cut each piece before baking.

With a nod to the intricate storefront displays throughout “The City of Love”, the Eiffel Tower, complete with lighting will be on display in to the New Year.   Continue reading

arborteum1

The Dallas Arboretum Children’s Adventure Garden presents many opportunities for holiday experiences before it closes for winterization beginning January 4 through the opening of Dallas Blooms on February 27. Before then, Children’s Adventure Garden guests will be busy with many special activities to close out the year.

On Saturday, December 19, guests can use science to prove the case for the holiday’s favorite cookie-lover, Santa Claus. Starting at 11 a.m., guests will get to use science to answer questions like, how does Santa’s sleigh fly? How does he fit down all the world’s chimneys? How does he not burn himself in the fireplace? The Case for Santa Claus program will take place in the Children’s Adventure Garden’s Entry Plaza.   Continue reading

Each month Haute Sweets rolls out their red carpet and features Coffee & Beignets on starting at 10am continuously until they sell out. The last beignet event for 2015 is this weekend, Saturday, December 19, 2015.    Continue reading

The Santas Rampaged This Weekend

DSC09688by Jennifer Thomas

Since Dallas doesn’t have much as far as Winter weather until the early part of 2016, we mark the advent of Christmas with a variety of events including the Santa Rampage. This year’s Rampage was hit a bit by an afternoon shower, but many showed up donning their holiday gear as Santa, a few Grinches, many, many elves, gift wrapped packages and even one Cindy Lou Who.

Hundreds of these Santa’s rampaged this city start in Deep Ellum then hitching a ride aboard the light rail into downtown with a final destination of the Cedar’s area just south of downtown.   Continue reading
