Q&A With Eric DiStefano From Geronimo And Ocho Kitchen

by Steven Doyle

Ocho Kitchen and Cocktails opened recently to an initial high praise from local media. Ocho is a partnership between Santa Fe chef Eric DiStefano and local restaurateur Brian Black of Mi Piaci fame. The restaurant has a chic feel that you might expect from its Preston center digs, thankfully without faux Santa Fe window dressing. Instead DiStefano delivers on a promise to bring his version of Southwest cuisine to Dallas, replete with on-premise fresh roasted Hatch peppers, and handmade tortillas.

It was through the Mi Piaci connection that Ocho has talented and innovative local chef Ross Demers, who was previously commanding the kitchen at that restaurant. Demers has handily made the transition from pasta to masa with ease, and says that he is enjoying the hard work it takes to make this cuisine from scratch.   Continue reading →

Seasons 52 Opens At NorthPark Just In Time For The Holidays

by Robyn Folmar

Since we are all recovering from binging on fried goodness at the State Fair, mosey on over to the new Seasons 52 at NorthPark mall where you, shockingly, won’t find the word ‘fried’ or ‘butter’ on the menu.  It will be easy to get yourself back on track with fresh, seasonal food where nothing on the menu is over 475 calories. Stop whining. It’s good. It was also good to be part of a group of invited media to sample through the menu.

Chef Clifford Pleau directs Seasons 52 and has collected awards from places such as Food & Wine and Wine Spectator magazines.  His vision is one of healthy, market-inspired food served in an approachable and sophisticated atmosphere.  No less emphasis is placed on the outstanding wine list led by Master Sommelier George Miliotes.       Continue reading →

Taylor Kearney Plays Chef Shuffle And Moves To Nick And Sam’s Steakhouse

by Steven Doyle

We interviewed the latest chef at The Greek last week with anticipation of running the story today, but we have more recent news that  Taylor Kearney is leaving the restaurant and has been installed as executive chef at Nick and Sam’s Steakhouse located on Maple Avenue in Dallas.  Kearney will be working under the corporate chef, Samir Dhurandhar.

The musical toques that have taken place recently might be due to the many new restaurants that have opened this month; a flurry that will continue on into November of 2012. The pool of qualified talent is in shorter supply as the demand rises. The Greek will be seeking a new chef to fill Kearney’s shoes.          Continue reading →

by Steven Doyle

More Texas fare coming at you from the Hilton Park Cities October 22, 2012.  There have been more restaurant openings in Dallas this month than normal and we are looking forward to trying Grain which will sport the cowboy-chic décor and a menu that is said to bridge the gap between high-end Dallas dining and familiar Texas fare.

Grain’s menu, designed by Chef James Music and Sous Chef Christopher Bosco, combines fine dining with the farm-to-table movement, exclusively serving meat, seafood, produce and libations sourced from the great state of Texas.   Continue reading →

by Steven Doyle

Located next to the Quadrangle on Routh Street in Uptown Dallas, the BBC, or British Beverage Company, will swing its doors open wide to the public October 29, 2012. October will prove to be a busy month for restaurant openings, and we are eager to grab one of the first pints to pour from this pub.

Sporting 50 taps along with 100 bottles of beer, the BC should prove to be a welcome addition to the pub landscape in North Texas. There is also promise of a kicked up cocktail program and a selection of 45 wines and bubbles. Continue reading →
