Babb Brothers BBQ Opens In Trinity Groves Nov 29

by Steven Doyle

Saturday evening Dallas had a glimpse into the first strike restaurant in the Trinity Groves area of West Dallas located at the foot of the new Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge.  The night brought a foreshadowing of Babb Brothers BBQ which opens to the public Thursday, November 29, 2012. The large structure serves as the BBQ headquarters for Trinity Groves, the first of many restaurants and entertainment venues that will make up the new area created by restaurateur Phil Romano and company.       Continue reading →

First Look: JoJo Eating House and Bar

by Steven Doyle

Being enamored with a restaurant is one of the casualties of what I do. Sometimes it manifests not too unlike a school girl crush. Last night I convinced a group to join me at JoJo Eating House and Bar; it wasn’t a difficult task. After the dining experience I wanted to pull JoJo’s hair and pass her sweet notes with two boxes at the ending: yes or no. She never says no.

This is a First Look post so there is no need to get into all the entanglements, but rest assured JoJo should rate high in any sensible review in the near future.      Continue reading →

JoJo Eating House and Bar Opens Tonight

by Steven Doyle

This weekend I was an invited guest to the pre-opening festivities at JoJo Eating House and Bar, the latest restaurant to open in Dallas in a long ration of new eateries in Dallas. Some of these new restaurants will gain the ire of public scrutiny; others will be issued a blessing that few restaurants receive as they become the patina of the Dallas landscape.

JoJo will be one of the lucky restaurants to survive and for a few good reasons.      Continue reading →

Seafood Shack Opens on Northwest Highway in Dallas

by Steven Doyle

For all my dive loving friends, I have some terrific news for you. The Seafood Shack on Webbs Chapel, just north of Forest Lane in Dallas has long been a spot to be in a crowd of Hispanic seafood lovers and to sample some pretty terrific dishes at a bargain rate. Seafood Shack has been known for their quarter oyster Tuesday (since been marked up to thirty cents), and daily specials that are true miserly treats. Do not fear the cheap oysters, they stay so busy they blast through these babies very, very quickly. In the world of oysters, that’s a good thing Continue reading →

Bonefish Grill Opens Dec 3 in Southlake

by Steven Doyle

Bonefish Grill is making its way to the DFW with its first stop in Southlake, Texas. Bonefish may sound like a choking hazard, but instead it’s a pretty nice and casual restaurant born in St. Petersburg, Florida in 2000. They serve responsibly sourced seafood and gear into the fun department with live music in the ultra large 5,600 square foot venue.     Continue reading →

First Look: John Tesar’s Spoon Bar and Kitchen

by Steven Doyle

Spoon Bar and Kitchen will more than likely be open for business this weekend, but that could change depending on the mood of chef-owner, John Tesar. For the sake of brevity, I am sure most in the city are familiar with Tesar, but if not you may catch him tonight as the 10th season of Top Chef premiers. Although the chef can’t, and won’t give up any juicy details of his exploits on the program, you may rest assured he charges out with his guns blazing.

Last night I was an invited guest of Tesar at the soft opening for Spoon, Tesar’s love child of a restaurant that he has been working on for the past year. Guests were not offered selections from the regular menu, but rather from his tasting menu, which will change often to keep up with seasons and availability of ingredients.  The tasting menu will be offered each day on the menu. First Look: British Beverage Company (Food Photos)

by Steven Doyle

In the former digs where Hully and Mo’s resided in the Dallas Uptown area, The British Beverage Company is nearly open and like most restaurants, it is slightly late to its own party.  Look for a very soft opening tomorrow evening, Thursday, November 1, 2012 with the official opening November 5.

We had the very first official look into the pub and was excited to see so much work went into the finish out, and that it didn’t look like a cheesy British Invasion. There are plenty of muted nods to the mother country, but they are well placed and not over-the-top.  Continue reading →
