People’s Choice Award: The Cocktail

by Crave Staff

It can be said with much certainty that the Crave Crew enjoys a good cocktail.  We spend most of our week hunting down the next best concoction to quench our thirst in this hot Texas sun, and definitely have our favorites.

Interesting enough, we have seen a trend where really great barmen have trained staffers who eventually fly the coop and go on to lay claim to their own brand of cocktail.  This is only good for the city of people just like us at crave, and you who might be reading this today.  Continue reading

Roxor a Local Texas Gin

by Steven Doyle

While wandering the pathways of the recent Southwest Food Show presented by the Texas Restaurant Association this week, I ran across an interesting gentleman representing Roxor Artisan Gin produced by the same folks at Dripping Springs Vodka, the Texas made vodka creating much buzz through out the country.

The story of Roxor, a clever palindrome that means ‘rocks’, is interesting and starts with Don Short, former Coca-Cola executive, and Robert Del Grande, the James Beard award winning chef who is also part of the Gang of Five that includes Stephan Pyles and Dean Fearing who started the Southwest cuisine movement. Cocktail of the Week: Bolsa

by Steven Doyle

Last evening I had a chance to stop in Bolsa for a nibble and a few cocktails. If you recall Wednesday is when Bolsa has their special cocktail night where they take suggestions from Facebook  friends in pairing ingredients with the spirit of the week to make five lush specialty cocktails.

Walking into Bolsa we were greeted by one of our favorite barmen in Dallas, Eddie “Lucky” Campbell. Lucky has been busy as of late not only covering his shifts at Bolsa, but also developmental work for the cocktail program at Mesa  (the hot new Mex-Mex in Oak Cliff) and is about to introduce the new cocktails at Bailey’s Prime Plus  next week in a collaboration with Cedars Social Michael Martensen.

This city of ours is fast becoming steeped up in cocktail holiness and we are all the beneficiary.

If my head is hurting today, and I am walking a bit slower than normal then allow me to show you why.  Jump!   Continue reading

Cask of Dreams Rolls Into Dallas

by Crave Staff

Earlier this week we caught up with Glenfiddich Ambassadors Heather Greene, Freddy May as they literally rolled into Dallas. This past weekend the trio of merry Scots escorted an empty barrel that would normally hold gallons of yummy Glenfiddich and asked local residents to sign the oak barrel and list their dream.

One lucky person will be granted their aspirations, be it climbing a particular mountain, cooking with a renowned chef or opening a business.  Continue reading
