Hotel ZaZa Sunday School Brunch This Weekend

by Steven Doyle              photos by Robert Bostick

We are asked about the Sunday School Brunch at Hotel ZaZa  just about more than anything we have talked about on craveDFW. We promised all those avid followers we would keep them informed of the next edition.

If you haven’t heard, the brunch is like no other. Think rave+brunch. It’s the party for those that won’t quit. The food is really cool and you get to play with sparklers while watching the dancing pandas.    Continue reading

A Peek at Nick and Sam’s Grill New Menu

by Steven Doyle

Nick and Sam’s is one of our very favorite steakhouses in Dallas. In the city of big beef chef Samir Dhurandhar has a magical touch of quality and adherence to old world doting service. This is the land of where modern pharaohs dine.

On a different spectral plane resides Nick and Sam’s Grill, the steakhouse’s cute sister just up the road on Fairmount in its beautiful Uptown digs. This is the affordable concept by Phil Romano and Joseph Palladino. Romano is of course Fuddruckers, Eatzi’s, Macaroni Grill, and a few other popular dining spots.

The Grill is  meant for an every day dining experience with all entrees well under $20.  The menu was written by corporate executive chef Samir Dhurandhar. This is the same Samir that dotes and proffers caviar by the spoonful at the steakhouse. Continue reading

It’s Easy Being Green at Malai Kitchen

by Amanda Sperry

It’s not easy being green in Dallas, the land of big beef. Let’s face it, if I want to go out with friends many menus do not offer my vegetarian choices and so I find myself succumbing to meat on occasion. I am vegetarian by choice, not by any social or moral edict. I just find eating flesh distasteful. But there are times I find myself straying just because it is an easier path, and maybe I had my fill of salads for the week.

Occasionally a place is found where I don’t have to appear high maintenance and I can have my ultimate choice of fare sans meat. Recently I stopped into Malai Kitchen with a friend and found out they cater to pretty much any dietary requirements a person could have, including vegetarian and gluten-free choices.          Continue reading

First Look: Tate’s Craft Cocktails

by Steven Doyle       photos by Steven Lindsey

We stopped in to check out Tate’s Craft Cocktails for their opening day and found owner John Tate tending to last minute details. We also had a few really great cocktails hand crafted by imported barman, Matt Ceneviva .

Matt actually relocated to Dallas from Winston-Salem where the original Tate’s is located and is now living in Deep Ellum. In the past months before moving to Dallas Matt had a chance to check out the competition, and he said he liked what he found, “I think I have been everywhere there is a good cocktail in Dallas. I enjoy what they are doing at Black Swan, and at Cedars Social. [Michael] Martensen is a genius, although we have never actually met.”       Continue reading

Tate’s Craft Cocktails Opens Wednesday

by Steven Doyle

Back in July we mentioned that there would be a new cocktail lounge  opening on McKinney. The time has come and Tate’s Craft Cocktails will swing open its doors Wednesday this week. (Also look here.)

Tate’s is owned by the same John Tate that was CEO of several corporations such as Krispy Kreme and Restoration Hardware, and local developer David Ferre. Ferre mentioned back in July that there would be a half dozen beers on tap and numerous craft bottles, but the main focus will be the cocktails.    Continue reading

A Look At La Fiorentina’s New Menu

Wild Mushroom Capellacci, trumpet mushrooms, Portobello & white wine cream sauce with plenty of white truffles

by Steven Doyle

Last week I learned that La Fiorentina, the beautiful restaurant on Cole in Dallas had released a new menu  with much lower prices. I eagerly wanted to check out the new menu and last night had a chance to stop in with a group of friends to see what sort of changes had transpired.

Walking in a bit before the rest of the group I was taken aback when I spotted new general manager, Alessio Franceschetti, who had previously been at the newly opened Zio Cecio just weeks earlier. Greeted by Franceschetti, he said that the more comfortable style at la Fiorentia was more suited to his personality. As the night would progress I thought to myself how true that statement really was.    Continue reading
