First Look: Del Frisco Grille

by Steven Doyle

The highest grossing restaurant in the United States is the Del Frisco Double Eagle Steakhouse located in New York at Rockefeller Center, registering sales upwards to a staggering $36 million annually. For most that have visited one of the many finer steakhouses in Dallas or Fort Worth most assuredly has dined at Del Frisco. Now Del Frisco is offering a more casual surrounding in their latest concept Del Frisco Grille  that just opened on McKinney Avenue in the same building as Private Social, and occupies just over 8,000 square feet of space.

We were invited to the media opening of the Grille and had an opportunity to check out much of the menu. During our visit we spotted many familiar faces from the Del Frisco family, including chef David Holben and also the crew from Sullivan’s, all in to lend a hand in this opening.    Continue reading

First Look: Mr. Mesero

by Steven Doyle

Mico Rodirguez is back and blazing guns at his new restaurant, Mr. Mesero. The quaint former location of the ill-fated Burger Girl located at 4444 McKinney Avenue holds a dozen four-top tables with an additional communal table outside that seats about twelve people.

I stopped by Mesero today for a bite and found the food much different than I had imagined. There were some Tex Mex items, but the menu also had a Mex Mex aspect as well.         Continue reading

What’s for Supper, Grandpa?

by Steven Doyle

I am not sure if you have seen any of the old reruns of Hee Haw that will pop up on television on the occasional Saturday afternoon, but there was a segment where a character named Grandpa Jones would rattle off a litany of crazy country cooking  and pronounce it supper. The last few days seems like it has been a similar feeding frenzy. A burger here, a whole fish there, and a few cups of pho to settle it all in for the day.

I thought it might be interesting to show a few photos of what I have had over the past week. If you have some recent food shots you wish to share with the craveDFW audience, feel free to send them our way with a description.   Continue reading

Oak Cliff Cellars Releases Wine at Special Parigi Dinner

by Steven Doyle

Oak Cliff Cellars is the California wine based in Oak Cliff.  Confused? Don’t be.  Many wineries in Texas are using California grapes. In 2007 the owners of Oak Cliff Cellars opened and are a fully-bonded commercial winery, specializing in small lot production of premium Northern California wines with less than a few hundred cases each of our favorite varietals — Petite Sirah, Zinfandel, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay.

You can find the Oak Cliff label at some pretty special location in DFW including Bolsa, The Grape, The Mansion and Parigi.    Continue reading

A Look at The Place at Perry’s New Menu

by Steven Doyle      photos by Susan Migdol

The Place at Perry’s doesn’t mind change. A restaurant that doesn’t wish to be mired into the beefy pit of steakhouses on the Dallas restaurant landscape, the owners of The Place at Perry’s are making some drastic changes.

First, there was the name change in a duel of battling wits with the other restaurant named Perry’s forcing the sign to read as it does today. Now they are about to close for the holidays and reopen mid-January a mere block away from their Routh Street locale to the Gables Villa Rosa building at 2680 Cedar Springs Road.     Continue reading
