Nana’s Friday Night Flight

by Steven Doyle

Last week I had a chance to stop into Nana at the Hilton Anatole to take advantage of the new Friday Night Flights, a unique beer pairing they put on the first Friday of every month. This past week I enjoyed samplings of San Diego’s Stone Brewing Company along with a few choice items from the bar menu created by one of Dallas’ top toques, Anthony Bombaci.

Before I describe what we sampled, I might first inform the initiated about Nana. First it is helmed by chef Bombaci who was classically trained at Hyde park’s CIA and served some of the best restaurants in the country including the acclaimed Chez Philippe at the Peabody in Memphis and top restaurants in Barcelona where he further developed his style of Creative American cuisine with Modern European influences.  Continue reading

Drink of the Week: Redfork

by Steven Doyle

The staff is not sure if you are aware of this, but we really do beat the streets in search of interesting items for craveDFW and often this means having a few cocktails. Last night was certainly no different than any other night and we found ourselves looking for a good drink.

Starting in Uptown I found a group of friends who had been communing with cocktails for an extended happy hour. As you may already know, it isn’t much fun joining a table that has a few hours head start to their evening. They tend to be easily excitable but always friendly. Lots of huggin’, so that couldn’t be too bad.  Continue reading

Will Fish for Food at Hook, Line and Sinker

by James McFaddin

There is a saying. There is only one thing wrong with fish; people don’t eat enough of it. Fish provides, among other things, protein, vitamin D, selenium, and the all important omega-3 fatty acids. Needless to say it’s a major part of my diet and I get a hankering for it throughout the week. When I don’t have it on hand to fry or broil at home I head down to my favorite fishing holes, Hook Line and Sinker.

Hook Line and Sinker is located on the corner of McKinney and Lemmon Ave. It has an inside dining area as well as an uber nice outside patio. No need to dress all fancy, this is casual dining at its best. You place your order at the counter, where there is an overhead menu, and then given a buzzer to let you know when your order is ready. After that it’s pretty much serve yourself. Not to worry though the service is great and they will happily help carry food items to your table.  Continue reading

People’s Choice Award: The Sandwich

by Crave Staff

This week we celebrate something so seemingly simple.  The sandwich is the quintessential lunch time fare and can take on wide range of flavor profiles and tucks away into your lunchbox nicely. Be it the hearty pastrami with a rustic rye, a smoky meat-filled brisket, or a delicious spicy meatball, who doesn’t love a great sandwich?  Continue reading

San Fermin Festival Celebration at Sangria

Stop in at Sangria to hear Flamenco guitarist John Goode followed later by two Late Night DJ’s. Kirk Hopper Fine Art: Sex/Twist

by Crave Staff

Kirk Hopper Fine Art: Sex/Twist featuring works of Daniela Comani, Sharon Engelstein, Bryan Florentin, Debora Hunter, Keri Oldham and David Van Ness
July 9-August 13, 2011
Artist reception July 9, 6:30 pm

Sex/Twist is a show that explores the repercussions of living in a time still defined by the Victorian era. While most people would agree that “repression” passed out of fashion long ago, the French philosopher Michel Foucault put forth a History of Sexuality that suggests that, on the contrary, we’re still operating within the confines of specific cultural taboos. In Volume I of his dense trilogy, he debunks commonly held notions that we’re no longer surprised or shocked by sexual license. And, in large part, Sex/Twist is a visual representation of Foucault’s assertions.  Continue reading

Common Table Beer Dinner

by Crave Staff

Lagunitas is considered the bad boys of the beer world, often throwing down crazy descriptions of their beer like this for their IPA:

“Like Adam and Eve, Isaac and Ishmael, Mao and Confucius, Good and Evil, Day and Night, Hittites and Visigoths, John and Lorena, or Groucho and Moe, Ales and Lagers are as different as can be. Still, we must love each for who they are, separately but equally, with liberty, and justice, for all. Cheers!”   Continue reading
