Hunt For CFS: Raven’s Grille

by David Donalson

There is nothing more Texan than chicken fried steak. Everyone has their own personal favorites and it is a matter of personal pride. I have eaten more than my fair share as my waistline can attest to but there is a hidden gem in the Mid-cities area that may have my favorite, Raven’s Grille.

You may be asking where Raven’s Grille is hidden if it is as good as it looks (and it is)? Raven’s Grille is clubhouse restaurant of Texas Star golf course. Texas Star is an amazing course that may be the hardest course I have ever played in very limited experience. What could be better than waking up early and getting a round of golf in? Eating this chicken fried steak afterward.  Continue reading

Clos Pegase Wine Dinner at Second Floor

by David Donalson

This Tuesday, the Second Floor Bistro and Bar are going to be hosting one of my favorite wineries, Clos Pegase. Winemaker Richard Sowalsky and executive chef J Chastain will be working together for this 5 wine, 4 course meal. For my money, I always love it when there is more wine than food and for just $75, this is well worth the money. Just look at the menu:  Continue reading

Chick-fil-A: Cow For A Day Plus Q&A With CEO

by Steven Doyle   photos by Robert Bostick

Put on your favorite cow-gear and enjoy a free meal on Chick-fil-A today as CEO Dan Cathy proposes they will possibly give away as many as 500,000 chicken sandwiches which includes both a side and a drink. The Cow Appreciation Day  website claims that in the spirit of the day even partial costumes will be udderly acceptable and they encourage entire herds to join in the fun.

Fun cow banter aside, we had a chance to sit with CEO Cathy yesterday afternoon to chat about our favorite fast food restaurant. We laughed a bit and also touched on some important issues.  Cathy came off both entertaining and genuine.  I think you will enjoy this Q&A.  Continue reading

Vegan Girl Does Sutra

by Melissa Brenner

Contrary to popular belief, people do exist north of 635. Surprising to some, there are vegans in that far away land. In an effort to reach out to our Northern comrades, I have ventured out of Dallas proper in an effort to expand the vegan experience for everyone.

The Shops at Legacy is about as far as I’m willing to venture, unless we’re talking road trip. There is an abundance of food options in this little village, including some interesting vegan fare.  On this trip, we dined at Vijay Sadhu’s Sutra.  Continue reading

Fractal Logic Mural Show and Forces of Nature

by StealingKitty  photos by Robert Bostick

I had the pleasure of attending Kettle Art, ‘Forces of Nature’, opening one hot Thursday night. The exhibition features works from 6 women artists and their interpretation on the theme. What happens after the fire, the sensual cacti, and the joyful celebration of life caught my attention and brought me in for a closer look at this exhibition.

Julia Schloss has been reclaiming and re-imagining found articles since she was a child. This passion continues with her work of reclaiming artifacts found from a burned house in her neighborhood. She took me through her series. The beginning of this story starts with everything burned to a crisp but a couple of photos from a life once shared in a house on a street; the background, burned wallpaper from the ashes. It was heartbreaking.  Continue reading
