Lockwood Distilling to Open a Fort Worth Location

Lockwood Distilling Co., the neighborhood distillery +  eatery where you can discover fun, food, and friends, is excited to announce its westward expansion – to Fort Worth! The community-driven distillery and craft kitchen, owned by Evan and Sally Batt that first opened in Richardson in October 2019, is currently building its second location, the Lockwood Distilling Co. Bottle Shop, at 1411 W. Magnolia, slated to open in late September 2021.

The new drinks and eats outpost on Magnolia feels similar to its Richardson counterpart with a black and white industrial aesthetic, natural woods, dark metals, and a covered patio perfect for sipping and live music. Custom artwork throughout the 2,700 sq. ft. space includes several familiar faces like Biggie Smalls and Dolly Parton adorning the walls with their favorite Lockwood swag, are just a little part of the charm, personality and heart that make up Lockwood Distilling Co. Bottle Shop.

Truluck’s introduces specialty dishes and wine pairings for August

Truluck’s has created specialty items to be served in the month of August. Enjoy a Spanish Octopus Appetizer ($26). Available Fridays-Sundays only) with tender chunks of octopus, Spanish chorizo, caramelized onions and roasted fingerling potatoes. Then move on to a honey glazed Ōra King Salmon ($48) with savory blueberry compote. Ōra King salmon has a vibrant flesh color and high fat content which gives it the rich, buttery and melt-in-the-mouth texture that chefs around the world love.

Truluck’s Beverage Director and Managing Partner, Dave Mattern, passionately picks every wine at all Truluck’s locations across the country. For the month of August, Dave is proud to present a unique assortment of Rioja wines that pair impeccably with Truluck’s cuisine. The reds have spicy elements, open and expressive fruit and a fine thread of acidity through the core. Toasted coconut, espresso and cacao can be expected on the finish. For the whites, you can expect lovely aromatics, sweet spices, ripe pear and apple fruits with long finishes.

Dallas Zoo Fundraiser Returns To The Wild

Slated for Saturday, November 6, 2021, and once hosted at the Dallas Zoo, Return To The Wild: Zoo To Do 2021will seean anticipated 450 guests and patrons will stroll through the award-winning Giants of the Savanna habitat, sample exquisite dishes from more than a dozen of Dallas’s premier chefs and restaurants, and enjoy up-close interactive animal demonstrations and musical entertainment. Following dinner, guests will move to the Wilds of Africa Plaza for a live auction featuring rare Zoo experiences, travel and more! Finally, partygoers will dance the night away to music from Manhattan.

On Tuesday, July 20, supporters of the Dallas Zoo gathered at POP! by Snowday inside the Galleria Dallas where the Zoo revealed details for this year’s exciting Zoo To Do fundraising event. Servers wandered through the crowd with bites, while guests enjoyed watching the elephants stroll through the Giants of the Savanna habitat and got up-close and personal with several of the Zoo’s Animal Adventures Outreach ambassador animals including a Eurasian eagle owl, a radiated tortoise, and a friendly pair of flamingos. 

Lois Finkelman, Board of Directors Chair for the Dallas Zoo welcomed everyone, then announced Robyn and Chris Chauvin as this year’s Event Chairs for the 30th Anniversary  Zoo To Do event. Lois then handed the floor to Rhealyn Carter, Vice President of Advancement at Dallas Zoo who reminded guests that for the past thirty years, Zoo To Do has been the signature fundraiser for Zoo raising over $17 million to support the Zoo’s mission of Engaging People & Saving Wildlife.

Malai Kitchen, a staple in the Dallas dining scene, will open a fourth location this Fall inside Preston Center Shopping Center at 6130 Luther Lane, Dallas, TX 75225 (former Bartaco space).

Yasmin and Braden Wages, the husband-and-wife team who own and operate Malai Kitchen restaurants offer a modern take on Thai and Vietnamese cuisine. Malai Kitchen is well known for its lively yet casually refined atmosphere which showcases creatively designed dishes inspired by traditional Southeast Asian cuisine.

OLIVELLA’S PIZZA AND WINE SHOP EXPANDS OFFERINGS AND HOURS TO INCLUDE LATE NIGHT PIZZA CARRYOUT AND DELIVERY

Olivella’s Pizza and Wine Shop, Dallas-Fort Worth’s critically acclaimed Roman and Neapolitan pizza kitchen, is launching late-night weekend hours for carryout and delivery. Starting August 13, on Fridays and Saturdays until 2 a.m. in Dallas and midnight in Fort Worth, Olivella’s can be picked up or delivered. 

It is also augmenting its already-robust pizza offering to include Detroit-style pizza as a late-night-only option at its Camp Bowie location in Fort Worth. Building on its legacy of century-old recipes from one of Naples, Italy’s oldest pizza families, the nationally recognized traditional Italian pizzeria is creating a unique Detroit-style pizza using beloved old-style Italian flavors. Detroit pizza, which features sauce on top of the pie and a thicker, rectangular crust, will only be available during late-night shifts via Olivella’s delivery or third-party delivery in Fort Worth. It will be available at the restaurant’s Dallas locations later this fall.

Oak Shuttering

Having been a Dallas staple for over a decade and one of  the restaurant pioneers of the Design District, Oak announces that it will be celebrating its last  two days this weekend. Having received a plethora of awards over the years, including four  stars and one of Dallas’s best restaurants by Dallas Morning News, CraveDFW Restaurant of  the Year, Bon Appetit top 50 New Restaurants in the nation, a chef James Beard nomination,  and many more, Oak solidified itself as a Dallas institution.

This weekend will be a celebration  of Oak’s success and the mark it made on the Dallas dining landscape as well as that of the  Design District. 

There will be plenty of specials and fun creations this weekend as we say good-bye.  As to what’s next in the Oak space, stay tuned.
