mr-creosote1 by Steven Doyle

Some may already know that I am spending the Winter in Utah among the beautiful people for several reasons.Mainly I am recovering from a crazy aneurysm that  tried its best to take me out.  I am seemingly more  powerful, knock on wood.

I continue to write craveDFW with stored up stories and help from some terrific contributors who are eager to try out new places in my stead. But I am missing things in my little berg. How about a look at the 75 things I miss the most about Dallas, besides some of you. I do have one beer, one cocktail and one person on the list that makes this so much more fun. What would you miss?

Well, not really. The taco is a delicious canvas for enjoying various meats and vegetables, and I think it has had a pretty good run, especially in these parts for the past several years. Continue reading

chinatown

Houston is home to the second largest Asian population in the United States (behind Los Angeles), so naturally a part of the city is full of restaurants and businesses run by the Asian community. This section of Southwest Houston is populated by Houstonians with Vietnamese, Indian, Pakistani, Chinese, Korean, and many other heritages. Treasures of many kinds exist throughout Chinatown, but they can be hard to spot from the street.

by Steven Doyle

Circulating steaming carts bearing light treasures all steamed, sautéed, fried and baked. Tiny packages of light bites meant to share and enjoy with friends and family, dim sum is the whimsical power brunch that will at once satisfy your curiosities and hunger.

What started out as a Cantonese supplement to tea service, much like tapas is to beer and wine, dim sum was brought to the west during the mid-19th century Chinese migration to the United States. Items are marked on the menu as to which is vegan and which is lacto-ovo vegetarian. Continue reading
