Beloved Vickery Park Is Closed

vickeryby Steven Doyle

Employees of Vickery Park located on Henderson were given the very sad news today that the popular bar is closed. Vickery was known for a wicked good beer selection and unusual bar food. Regulars to the 11-year old bar were neighborhood residents and restaurant industry employees; a very popular chef hang out.

We particularly enjoyed Vickery’s lazy brunch that was extended into Monday to serve industry employees. This leaves a huge gap that will no doubt be difficult to fill.

Look for more fall-out to be announced soon.

Shuttered: Sfuzzi Dallas and Le Taco

tacoby Steven Doyle

Sfuzzi in Uptown and Le Taco are both closed.

Sfuzzi seemed to have a difficult time reinventing itself and blew through a handful of chefs quickly, including Avner Samuels. Le Taco, which was once Scotch and Sausage, also had an identity crisis. Oddly enough  Scotch and Sausage was a fantastic concept and put out a great product, as did Le Taco.  No doubt it was a matter of finding its audience that took down the taco restaurant.  Continue reading

McFadden’s Addison Closed

mcfaddensby Steven Doyle

The Irish Goodbye is truly the best exit strategy. This is where you simply vanish into the night quietly, possibly with a select bottle in hand. No need for long chats of regret and confusing excuses about leaving the iron on or babysitters (we know you have no children).  This is what Addison’s McFadden’s did for us last night as they abruptly shuttered after three and a half years.   Continue reading

Snookies Loses Lease, Closes This Sunday

dsc00918by Steven Doyle

In 1989 when Gene Street Jr. and Dace Street opened Snookies on Oak Lawn they most likely had no idea what an institution the bar would become. To this day they serve up one of the better chicken fried steaks in the old family Street tradition. It is with that in mind we pass on the news we received this past weekend that Snookies will be shutting their doors after 26 years this coming Sunday night.    Continue reading

DiDi’s Tamale Diner in Trinity Groves is Closed *Updated

didiby Steven Doyle

The first fallout at Trinity Groves has happened. DiDi’s Tamale Diner went dark in the past few days, and the sign has been removed with a note stating that a new concept is “coming soon”. The tamale diner was a pretty restaurant, opening this past November serving up traditional tamales from both Mexico and Guatamala (chuchitos). The restaurant was run by Michael Beck and namesake Andina “DiDi” Fernandez.

Update: Trinity Groves responds…

“Trinity Groves is disappointed to announce that Didi’s Tamale Diner has closed. We know that Didi’s tamales are among the best in world and we are proud to have worked with her. The Trinity Groves leadership team is trying their best to make sure the employees find jobs at other restaurants in the development.

The purpose of this restaurant incubator is to learn which concepts are successful long-term and we are glad to see that it is working as we envisioned it would.

Currently, there are 12 restaurants open in the incubator and many new and creative restaurant concepts to select from to fill the former Didi’s space. We look forward to that project and continuing to serve all of our customers and guests at Trinity Groves.”

Bijoux Meets its Waterloo: Closing in February

ginascott-5dce1800

Bijoux, one of the few restaurants in Dallas to earn “five stars” twice, and one of the “10 Hottest New Restaurants in America” by Bon Appétit (2007) will be dishing a final bow on February 28.

Scott and Gina Gottlich, Bijoux’s chef/sommelier ownership duo, have decided to close after eight and a half successful years in business. “Bijoux’s run has exceeded all of our expectations and wildest dreams. We feel now is the right time to close, on a high note, so we can stay focused on our other restaurant, The Second Floor at the Westin Galleria, and take time consider future projects,” said Scott Gottlich.   Continue reading
