A Taste of the Just Released Deep Ellum Four Swords Cab Barrel Aged at the New Taproom

We checked in at the fairly new Deep Ellum Taproom located inside the brewery of the same name, and was pleasantly surprised to find what resembles a pretty cool looking pub found on the outskirts of Deep Ellum. You can often find beers that the brewery produces that might not be served elsewhere, such as the new  Four Swords Cabernet Barrel Aged brew released today in bottles. If you go today when they open their doors, you might be able to find a few snifters left of this unique beer. Otherwise you will need to scout out a bottle or two at your favorite high-end beer retailer. The supply is horrendously limited at about 45 cases.

We chatted up Deep Ellum Brewery owner John Reardon for the low down on this special beer and he said it was the Four Swords quad that has been barrel aged in casks they purchased from Ben Calais over a year ago when Calais winery was still located in Deep Ellum, If you recall, Calais has since moved to their new vineyard in the hill country of Hye, Texas.   Continue reading

Deep Ellum Brewing Releases Four Swords

four swordsby Steven Doyle

Last night the boys from Deep Ellum Brewing Company were out in full force at Goodfriend Beer Garden and Burger House to celebrate the release of their latest and insanely good beer, Four Swords. Four Swords is not a beer for the faint of heart or weak of knees. This Belgian quadruple has a bold flavor of dark fruits, figs and toffee. The mouth feel is gentle and creamy, although it clocks in at a powerful 9.5% ABV.

We scurried up to Goodfriend last night for a taste and meet up with brewmaster, Jeremy Hunt who was happy with his latest brew. We are as well. We asked what his inspiration was behind Four Swords.   Continue reading

A Look At Armadillo Ale Works

armadillioby Brian Wall

It’s not easy to start a business. Many of you that have understand how difficult it can be. If it isn’t the financial aspect, it can be the location or the legality of the business. Craft beer breweries hit these problems frequently. Ask any home brewing enthusiast if they would enjoy making beer for a living and the answer would probably be unanimously “YES!”. Armadillo Ale Works knows this knowledge firsthand.  Continue reading
