Saturday is the day half of Dallas has been circling since August. Texas and Oklahoma meet at the Cotton Bowl on October 10 with a 2:30 p.m. kickoff on ABC or ESPN, and the whole thing plays out in the middle of the State Fair of Texas, the way it has every year since 1929. This is the 97th straight meeting at the Fair, and the contract keeps the game at Fair Park through 2036. Texas won last year’s game 23-6, so Sooner fans arrive with something to prove.

The 55-foot Big Tex is on his way to his roost at the State Fair of Texas just east of the number one Fletcher’s Corny Dog stand in Big Tex Circle. This year Tex’ boots were fashioned by Lucchese Bootmaker and were designed by Big Tex Boot Design Contest winner Jessica Bonilla.
Tex has a long and lustrous history dating back to 1952 in Kerens, Texas. The statue was an idea of Howell Brister, manager of the Chamber of Commerce, to encourage holiday sales in the town, and the “World’s Largest Santa Claus” stood over Colket Avenue for two holiday seasons — drawing press attention from as far away as Iran and Australia.

Earlier this year, Fletcher’s Original Corny Dogs announced a tasty new partnership to park its first-ever Food Truck along Klyde Warren Park’s East Lawn adjacent to the new Nancy Best Fountain. As Klyde Warren Park celebrates 10 years of serving communities in the heart of Dallas, this partnership brings State Fair fun to the city’s beloved green space all year long. For the past several months, Fletcher’s has been utilizing its existing food trailers to pop up at the Park on weekends while their new food truck was being designed and built.
