Celebrity trainer, Jillian Michaels, recently said Dallas should stop drinking so many margaritas. She might as well tell us to stop breathing.

Originally just tequila and lime juice, the margarita dates back to 1924 and didn’t make its way to the United States until Cointreau introduced it in 1962. Dallasites have been making up for lost time ever since. Cinco de Mayo is upon us and there is plenty of celebration set for the DFW area. If you are at a loss for what to do in North Texas this big tequila drenched weekend, we are here to guide you along. Don’t miss The 24th Annual Cinco de Mayo Big Parade and Festival. The Big Parade is the largest Cinco de Mayo parade in North Texas with over 20,000 in attendance. This colorful event includes marching bands, folkloric dance groups, school groups and much more. It takes place on the first Saturday each May in Oak Cliff that starts Saturday, May 3, 2014 at 10am, and the Big Parade starts at 11am. The Festival at Casa Guanjuato runs from noon to 8 p.m., 1002 W. Brooklyn Ave.

Galveston Entrepreneur Puts Margaritas In The Bag

This is Ralph McMorris, better known as Lt. Blender. He got that name because, when he served in the U.S. Army, he was the only one with a blender during one tour of duty. When it broke, he improvised by making margaritas in a bag. That made him very popular. He parlayed his drink making skills into Lt. Blender’s drink mixes. In case you think that an entrepreneur’s life consists solely of jetting around in private planes like one of the Sharks, ask Mark Cuban what it was like when he started, selling door-to-door. Or Barbara Corcoran what it was like waiting tables in NYC. In a similar vein, below is Lt. Blender’s one and only production facility. The Margarita Meltdown has become one of the most anticipated festivals in Dallas during the Memorial Day weekend. Nearly 3,000 thirsty people descended upon Dallas’ Bishop Arts District on Sunday for the 3rd annual Dallas Margarita Meltdown, presented by Milagro Tequila. Thousands of drinks were mixed, poured and served, but only one margarita could be voted as the best.       Continue reading →
