Eat Me: Cannon’s Corner Scotch Eggs

Built in 1922 and renovated in 2014, the building is appropriately known as Cannon’s Village after Cannon’s 5-Cent store became the anchor tenant in the 1950’s.

Cannon’s Corner showcases traditional Irish culture through a thoughtful food and beverage program. Owner Alan Kearney tells us, “It’s important to me to serve the community that surrounds us.  Irish pubs are great back drops for all sports, and good conversation. IdleRye Opening in Deep Ellum

IdleRye, a modern American restaurant with a focus on global influences, will open in spring at 2826 Elm Street in Deep Ellum. The concept comes from restaurant group Smoke & Mortar, which is led by Bruce Wills, Daniel Wills and Ray Skradzinski, owners of The Table in Flower Mound, and Tim Porter, CFO.

IdleRye’s cuisine will pull from each of the owners’ backgrounds –– Skradzinski’s Polish roots and the Wills brothers’ Louisiana upbringing –– to create rich, colorful dishes with a global flair. A variety of fresh, seasonal dishes will be offered, with a focus on small bites and housemade pastas and sausages. The menu will include appetizers, salads, sandwiches, entrees, sides and desserts. Brunch and late night menus will also be available. IdleRye’s drink menu will feature craft cocktails inspired by the prohibition era, wine by the glass or bottle and beer on tap.   Continue reading →

Denton’s Barley & Board Opens Weds, Aug 12

Denton’s first Brewpub Restaurant, Barley & Board opens Wednesday, August 12. Featuring ‘New American Cuisine’ in harmony with dozens of beers on tap, this brewpub restaurant will highlight some of Texas’ finest breweries as well as in-house ales created by artisan brewers. Open for lunch and dinner, Barley & Board sits in the heart of the historic Downtown Denton Square and has captured some of the look and feel from the original Lacy Hotel by including elements of exposed brick, reclaimed wood, distressed leathers and industrial lighting.  Continue reading →

First Look: Toad in the Hole

Southern Comfort is no more. In fact, so is Ku Da Ta. Make way for the freshened up Toad in the Hole that is officially open for business located in Southern Comfort’s digs, and weeks before it was actually to open for business. Here you will find the magnificent bars inherited from its former self, but with a much more relaxed vibe. The crowd is as interesting as the cocktails being poured, and the food is reflects the name and has this amazing Brit flavor right down to the house-made HP sauce.

For the kitchen portion of Toad they brought in TK Culinary. For those not familiar, TK is Terry Kranz who has been operating hs own catering business for some years now after working or so long with Kent Rathbun. Kranz brought in another Rathbun alumni, chef Sean Frye who has developed a menu for Toad in the Hole that is fairly remarkable. Think Scotch Eggs wrapped in a made-from-scratch Cumberland sausage and drizzled with a roasted garlic aioli.      Continue reading →

Toad in the Hole Opening Soon on Ross Ave

Look for a new English-style pub and grub opening up on Ross Avenue (our predicted newest hot spot in Dallas). Toad in the Hole will be the latest to join the likes of Three Sheets, Ku De Ta, and Sunset Lounge. The General Manager is Johnny Oliva (The Fan Sports Lounge, The Point), and will be staffed by prominent area bartenders with the many years of collective experience.

Greenville Avenue’s British Invasion

As far as Dallas-area bars are concerned The Londoner is a decided staple, and with a brand new location on the Lower Greenville strip its legacy is cemented. This past Saturday night the bar was filled with the sound of Beatles cover band A Hard Day’s Night and cheers from spectators watching sports on big screen T.V.’s scattered about the place. Succulent Scottish eggs and other pub fare where delivered by the coconscious staff and bar expected at any of the five locations the Londoner has around Dallas.      Continue reading →
