Modern Masters Classes for Adults

by Crave Staff

Statuesque brings together the work of six contemporary artists who present new ways of seeing the human form. Join them as they examine the traditional role of a public statue and how the representation of the figure has been transformed in the hands of 20th- and 21st-century sculptors. In the studio, create your own re-interpretation of the figure in clay.

Stop by the Nasher Sculpture Center for more details on how to join in on this unusual class.

Ezra Petronio: Bold & Beautiful

by Steven Doyle

For more than a decade, Ezra Petronio has been independently publishing Self Service, a bi-annual fashion and lifestyle magazine. In an Andy Warhol 1970s style, Petronio’s exhibition at Dallas Contemporary is the Polaroid documentation of the creative people that have been involved in the magazine – curators, designers, editors, photographers, thinkers, musicians, artists, socialites, troublemakers. Never before seen in an institutional setting, Petronio’s exhibition explores the diversity of fashion, photography and art. Ezra Petronio was born in New York City in 1968. Petronio lives and works in Paris, France.

Martensen and Campbell Create Cocktails at Bailey’s

A Very Young Campbell

by Crave Staff

We love a good press release, but not nearly as much as we appreciate our friends Michael Martensen and Lucky Campbell who have gone in cahoots with Bailey’s Prime Plus to revamp their cocktail menu.  This only means great things for the Dallas cocktail landscape.  And hey, Lucky, you have our number.  You can call us when you do this stuff, dude.

Read on for the heavy details.

One Beer Island

by Jeff Fryman

What is your favorite beer? That is the question I hear most often. At first, it was flattering. The people I talk to trust and respect my opinion so much that they care to know my favorite beer. Awesome. But less than a second before the question sets in, I am blank. It is hard to answer. What is your favorite movie? Well, I really think Ace Ventura is hilarious, but Taxi Driver also holds a small place in my heart, Annie Hall never skips a beat, and on and on it goes.

I cannot honestly answer. However, I am not a pompous jerk so I quickly reword their question as, ‘if I were on a deserted island and could only drink one beer for the rest of my life, what would that beer be?’ I wish you could see the blank look on my face. What an easy question… to ask. I would probably demand to know why I was being held against my will on an island that could only manage to stock one beer (even if it was one that I really liked).  Continue reading →

Crave Cat Craves Katz

by David Donalson

Katz’s is both a blessing and a curse. You see, every time that I have gone looking for a good pastrami sandwich, I am left a little wanting. Thousand Island (aka Russian, I don’t know why) is for salads and McDonalds. Swiss cheese is fine but sometimes overshadows the meat.  It is hard to figure out what the big fuss was over. So I admit I stopped looking for good pastrami. But in preparation for my trip to New York, a name kept coming up: Katz’s Deli. You can see it on shows like Man v. Food and Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservations so I figured if there was any place that I could go to get myself a pastrami sandwich, it was there.  Continue reading →

Taste of Addison in 2D

by Steven Doyle

As chance would have it I made my way to the one-bajillionth annual Taste of Addison which is filled with crazy good food and beverage options from all the Belt Line restaurants on that side of the loop. For those not willing to enjoy a fun day in the sun with a cooling beer or a pina colada served Gilligan style in a whole pineapple, as it seemed thousands did, we braved the beautiful Spring day and ate our way through the gentle masses snapping photos along the way.    Continue reading →

Uptown’s La Fiorentina Brunch Is Sweet

by Steven Doyle

There is nothing more soothing and regenerative as the Sunday Brunch cocktail the Mimosa. Use a really nice Prosecco instead of the generic sparkling wine and you have a moment of bliss. What could possibly be better? Use fresh squeezed OJ as they do in the very rustic and very open bar at La Fiorentina.  Continue reading →
