Tiffany Derry to Host Unique Lunches Once a Month

Word on the street is that chef Tiffany Derry from Private Social will be offering a unique themed lunch each third Thursday of the month beginning Saturday, February 18, 2012 from noon to 2pm.

Lunches will kick off on February 18th with a family-style pig roast. The pig will be served with bottomless sides including farm-fresh kale salad, roasted baby fennel, braised turnips with tops, and celeriac purée and the choice of water, iced tea or soda for $20 a person.         Continue reading →

Four Corners Opens This Week in Farmers Branch

Word comes from Cuquita’s owner Elizabeth Villafranca that she is opening her doors to her latest restaurant, Four Corners, this coming Friday, February 10, 2012. The hours for the new restaurant in farmers branch will be 6am to 2pm and serve breakfast and lunch items only.
We told you about the new restaurant a few weeks ago, and today we get the press release with more details. You might remember Vilafranca from Cuquita’s, the fresh Tex-Mex restaurant that was named top five by Texas Monthly. We have also sent them accolades over the years and recently named them one of the top enchiladas in Dallas.

Stonewall Gardens Food Truck Rally

As food trucks become more entrenched into our daily routine we are fining more and more popping up. There will be at least five new versions roll out this month alone hitting the streets of DFW.

Local charities have already corralled the trucks in various fashion with events to raise funds for their concerns, and today we wish to direct you towards one such event that will benefit a local elementary school garden and science program.   Continue reading →

A Visit to Russian Banya

Hidden in a small Carrollton shopping center on Rosemeade Parkway is a tiny oasis of Russia that is steeped up in time honored tradition of cooking and the only Banya in Texas.

Russian Banya, Spa and Cafe has Russian, Finnish and Turkish steam rooms. The Russian steam room holds a wood-burning masonry stove and is kept above 200 degrees with 40-65 percent humidity. The dry cedar-lined Finnish sauna stays between 180-210 degrees with 5 or 10 percent humidity. The Turkish sauna is a wet steam room kept at 90-110 degrees with 100 percent humidity.      Continue reading →

Check Out the Latest Pop-Up Bar Hid In 2612

This past weekend we checked out the new pop-up Hid In 2612 cocktail lounge in Deep Ellum hosted by Michael Martensen of Cedars Social and Brian McCullough of the soon-to-open Standard Pour in the new space that Cane Rosso’s Jay Jerrier happily donated. The proceeds will benefit the Deep Ellum Community Association.

The décor of the tiny space is fun and spirited with much of the furnishings coming from Again & Again diva Leslie Pritchard and the design gurus at KingZuluBong.     Continue reading →

Wolfgang Puck Talks New Trends and His In-N-Out Experience

Last week we had the good fortune to meet up with chef Wolfgang Puck who locally owns Five Sixty, and the legendary Beverly Hills restaurant Spago. In all he is responsible for over 100 restaurants across the country and opening more very soon.

Foundry Bar To Open Tonight

For those missing the digs at the former Jack’s Backyard, the Foundry Bar is set to open tonight for a trial run. According to owner Chris Jeffers of Smoke fame just up the road a bit in the Belmont, “We are going to open tonight at five. Come on down. We are still a work in progress, but come see what we’ve done so far.”

The Foundry Bar  is located in West Dallas at 2303 Pittman off West Commerce near Sylvan.
