A Look At La Fiorentina’s New Menu

: Wild Mushroom Capellacci, trumpet mushrooms, Portobello & white wine cream sauce with plenty of white truffles

Last week I learned that La Fiorentina, the beautiful restaurant on Cole in Dallas had released a new menu with much lower prices. I eagerly wanted to check out the new menu and last night had a chance to stop in with a group of friends to see what sort of changes had transpired.

Walking in a bit before the rest of the group I was taken aback when I spotted new general manager, Alessio Franceschetti, who had previously been at the newly opened Zio Cecio just weeks earlier. Greeted by Franceschetti, he said that the more comfortable style at la Fiorentia was more suited to his personality. Make-A-Wish Truffle Dinner

Last evening we were invited guests at a very special white truffle dinner hosted by the Make-a-Wish Foundation at La Fiorentina. The night promised a magical meal prepared by the chefs at the Lombardi family restaurant, but the evening was more about children that could not be with us that evening.

You are no doubt familiar with the legendary organization, Make-a-Wish. Over the years they have fulfilled thousands of dreams (215,139 to date) of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. Each wish costs an average of $7,000 and last night they raised at least that much in a live auction, proceeds from the dinner, and a very generous donation by the Lombardi family. Vegan Girl Does Absinthe Lounge for the Holidays

It’s party season, people! I’ve been to quite a few already, but there are myriad more on the calendar. Problem is none of them have been all vegan. All drinks and no food (celery and carrots on a tray don’t count as alcohol appropriate food, by the way) makes for me needing a ride home. What are your options for a totally safe for vegan holiday party? Have it at your house or have it at your vegan friend’s house… blah. Mr G’s in Plano Offering Huge Tasting

I don’t know how many CraveDFW readers are also avid listeners of The Ticket (1310am), but those who are have probably already heard about a great event coming up this Thursday. While I am a huge fan of Veritas on Henderson and their oft imitated – never duplicated free wine tastings, the event I’m about to tell you about is, in my opinion, one of the best free tasting events in the metroplex. I don’t want to wait until Friday to let people know I was there, that would just be selfish! Here’s the scoop:

Every few months The Ticket’s Hardline (Mike Rhyner and Corby Davidson) broadcast a show live from Mr. G’s Beverage and Deli in Plano. During that broadcast, Mr G’s owner Robert Gartner and his staff pull out all the stops. The fact that this event is free really makes it worth the drive to Plano. Continue reading →

Freixenet Tastings & Tapas Hits DFW

The chilly weather didn’t put a damper on the Freixenet Tastings & Tapas truck launch at Wish Ultralounge last night. Food trucks are all the rage these days and the Ferrer family, the producers of Freixenet, were not going to be left in the cold, no pun intended. Freixenet, Spain’s famous “Black Bottle Bubbly”, is the “largest producer of methode champenoise”. For those of you, like me, who don’t know what the heck that means, they make more sparkling wine than anyone else. You can’t call it Champagne unless it’s made in, you guessed it, Champagne, France.
