Off The Cuff, a new neighborhood bar coming to Deep Ellum is scheduled to open its doors in March. Dallas restaurant veterans Alex Hines and Tan Mai have a simple goal for their new bar concept – an upbeat environment where everyone feels comfortable and welcome. With an emphasis on a neighborhood feel, this isn’t your typical bar – Off The Cuff will be customer-oriented and adaptable, tailoring itself to what each customer wants, in an atmosphere that is vibrant and engaging.

The phrase “off the cuff” originated in the United States during the Great Depression Era, meaning spontaneous or without prior preparation – and that’s exactly what you’ll find here- a neighborhood bar as eclectic as the neighborhood it’s joining. “Our goal is to create a comfortable and energetic environment for everyone and really emphasize the word “service” in customer service,” said Off The Cuff co-owner Tan Mai. This week marked a beautiful dinner from the people at Cooper’s Meat Market located at Sylvan-30 near Oak Cliff. The wine dinner was prepared by the very  capable hands of chef Kelly Hightower who  has a huge following, and also featured one of our very favorite sommeliers Selena Dodge who was pouring wines from Halter Ranch at Paseo Robles, California.

Historic Halter Ranch is a vineyard and winery located in the heart of the Paso Robles’ Westside Adelaida District. California’s Central Coast Wine Country has ideal conditions for growing superior wine grapes and producing world-class wines. The 100% estate-grown wines are sustainably farmed on westside limestone soils. Tradition and innovation mix at Halter Ranch to produce Bordeaux and Rhône-style wines of the highest quality. Best Buffet Selections in Dallas

buffet.jpgby Steven Doyle

We have been asked to write a list of the best buffets in Dallas and initially that seems like a dreadful task, but once we pulled off the ugly layers of the buffet onion we were shocked at how many lovely experiences could be found. The very best way to run a buffet situation is to keep it fresh, clean and with an unusual variety to keep guest’s interest. In the case of the Indian food buffet, it makes for an excellent canvass to bring newcomers to the cuisine with the ability to instantly sample a variety of dishes and spark an interest that may not have formerly been there.

We think we found a few you will enjoy. We hope you share your favorites in the comment section! Continue reading
