Four Lounge Celebrates With New Cocktail Menu

by Steven Doyle

We have been keeping a close eye on the work of Keith LaBonte, owner of Four Lounge located at State and Allen in Uptown. The barman has been making crazy good drinks at the tiny lounge and recently announced a new cocktail menu.

We featured LaBonte  on craveDFW a few months ago and the man does a superb job, especially at the molecular cocktail thing which can be so fun to watch.   Continue reading

Deep Ellum Brewing Company Officially Open for Business

by Steven Doyle   photos by Robert Bostick

This past weekend Deep Ellum Brewing Company  officially opened their doors to the public by hosting a party on Saturday with live music and plenty of beer on hand to sooth the thirsty crowd. For the price of $10 about 300 beer fans showed up to sample a few of the beers Brew Master Drew Huerter had planned including the holiday beer, Festivus, which is a dark IPA with a very smooth finish.

Other beers sampled included the Farmhouse Wit and the popular Double Stout that is on hand at many pubs around town including the Anvil Pub, Common Table and in Plano, Holy Grail. The Farmhouse Wit was the first keg to officially float.       Continue reading

Tate’s Craft Cocktails Opens Wednesday

by Steven Doyle

Back in July we mentioned that there would be a new cocktail lounge  opening on McKinney. The time has come and Tate’s Craft Cocktails will swing open its doors Wednesday this week. (Also look here.)

Tate’s is owned by the same John Tate that was CEO of several corporations such as Krispy Kreme and Restoration Hardware, and local developer David Ferre. Ferre mentioned back in July that there would be a half dozen beers on tap and numerous craft bottles, but the main focus will be the cocktails.    Continue reading

Get Your Turkey Day Wines Now

by David Donalson

Wine during Thanksgiving can be a bit of a challenge because there are so many side dishes to go along with the turkey and ham. While there is not a single wine that can perfectly pair with your meal, I am going to give you some common and not so common pairings that might make your trip to your wine shop a little easier.

Most people look for Chardonnay to go with their Thanksgiving meal and it is a solid choice, especially if you are eating a smoked turkey. The buttery flavors of a good, oak-aged chardonnay really accent the smoke flavoring of the turkey as well as bring out more fruit flavors within the wine. Flowers Chardonnay ($41.69) would be an amazing match, while the Arbor Crest Connor Lee Vineyard Chardonnay ($14.99) and Sonoma-Cutrer Sonoma County ($20.92) would be lighter styles that would also be wonderful.   Continue reading

Wachu TacoBot, Willis? The Cedar’s Social

By Danielle Leahym         photos by Jacque Manaugh

The Cedar’s Social is one of the most buzzed about restaurants in Dallas this year. With is dark, sexy 70’s throwback interior, amazing and exhaustively researched drink menu, and ownership by former NFL player Brian Williams there are lots of reason The Cedar’s Social keeps popping up in the news around town, not the least of which has to do with it’s food. The food here is very good, in many cases great. Sure it can be on the pricey side but many agree what it might lack in affordability it more than makes up for in ambiance, mood, music, and execution.

If you want a romantic date night that doesn’t feel traditional, campy, or old fashioned The Cedar’s Social is the place for you. If you want some of the best drinks in town made by the some of the best bartenders in DFW, then The Cedar’s Social is the place for you. But what if you want tacos? Well thank God for The Cedar’s Social $2 Taco Tuesday’s because in this most holiest of food genres, The Cedars Social also has you covered.       Continue reading

Hidden Gems: Bottle Shop

by Adam Sachs      photos by Suzi Migdol

Construction on Lowest Greenville has no doubt created obstacles for us to visit some of the neighborhood’s most beloved staple institutions, so it seemed curious that a new business would open in what seemed like a precarious state of affairs in the area.  World Beer Company Bottle Shop has been open in its current location since May of this year, and was a perfect place to visit on a whim.       Continue reading

BubblyQ at the Ritz-Carlton

by David Donalson        photos by Steven Doyle

BubblyQ is a walk-around tasting and silent auction put on by Young Texans Against Cancer, a non-profit organization focused on raising funds for North Texas cancer research, a very noble cause we fully support and endorse. Held on the patio area in the Ritz-Carlton surrounded by Fearing’s  restaurant, it was an enjoyable evening of dining, sipping and hob-nobbing with beautiful Dallasites.

We had several favorites with the food, led off by recently-resigned Scott Romano of Charlie Palmer and his rendition of rabbit agnolotti in parmesan broth with root vegetables. It was full of flavor, hearty and earthy and went well with Cotes du Rhone Village being poured at the bar.    Continue reading
