Wachu TacoBot Willis? Shooters

by Daniel Leahy

Shooter’s opened in Victory Park this past January serving street and gourmet tacos along with burgers, salads, and wings. With some of the cheapest prices in the area this is exactly the kind of restaurant the AAC has need: cheap quick food and low priced drinks and all just a few steps from the main entrance to the American Airlines Center. Weekly taco and sandwich specials like this week’s Blackened Tilapia Taco or the daily lunch special with 2 tacos and a side of either the bacon cheesy rice and beans or a side salad help round out the menu.

Wachu TacoBot Willis? El Si Hay

by Danielle Leahy           photos by Jacque Manaugh

Long rumored to be some of the best tacos in all of Dallas (and continuously pitted against Fuel City by taco connoisseurs in the know) El Si Hay does the one thing most street taco stands back away from: letting nothing but the quality of the meat shine thru.

Now don’t get me wrong. I love a well sauced/seasoned taco. Gimme a picadillo or a guisada any day of the week and make me a happy girl. But having led the Tacobots on alternating meetups between the street vs gourmet world for over a year now it’s hard not to assume that when you show up somewhere that is serving tripe or barbacoa at 11pm there’s a good chance it’s gonna be soaking in something to keep it moist. Nothing could be further from the that at El Si Hay.             Continue reading

Eat More Tacos: Tacopalooza

by Steven Doyle

Tacopalooza?  Sure, why not.  This event is brought to Dallas by the good folks that pulled off Mods versus Rockers in Dallas last weekend, David Marett, and craveDFW’s own TacoBot glam girl Daniel Leahy.  The event will feature tacos from across the Dallas taco plains, replete with taco eating contests, bands, PBR and much talk about tacos.

The event takes place Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Bryan Street Tavern, the place for good tacos, PBR and bands, and begins at 1pm. The event culminates later in the evening with the taco judgment and ends at 7pm.

You won’t want to miss this one.

Wachu TacoBot Willis? Nueva Casita

by Danielle Leahy          photos by Bryan Coonrod

Nueva Casita on Blackwell is located in a charming little stone building behind the Half Price Books off Northwest Highway. Boasting an all taco menu for just the Tacobots with 9 different tacos (including crispy tacos, my illicit taco love affair) we got straight down to business so we could enjoy the Tuesday night Karaoke going on after we finished.

First up were the house chips and salsa. Maybe my taco eating powers have increased my spice handling capabilities (or maybe it was my tussle with Bryan’s insane Devil’s Blood salsa last meet up) but I found the house salsa could use a little more heat, luckily they have two more salsa’s (red and green) that packed the kind of punch we were looking for and they were more than happy to bring us out as much as we needed. And in a few cups of their delicious queso and we were ready to go.        Continue reading

Whachu Tacobot Willis? Taqueria Pinocho

by Danielle Leahy        photos by Jacque Manaugh

Taqueria Pinocho is a true hole-in-the-wall style taco shop. Located in East Dallas off Carroll and Main Street we were surprised to see a large dining area with more than adequate seating available for families or large groups. With all their meats on display through the glass case and waiting to be chosen and cut, Taqueria Pinocho can handle large crowds of people and large numbers of tacos in a relatively short amount of time.

With a huge selection, consisting of all the regular street taco choices and a few more unusual ones to boot, the biggest obstacle to over come was the all Spanish menu. Luckily we found everyone behind the counter at Pinocho to be more than willing to help us and very excited to share their food.     Continue reading
