Celebrate a Year of Cravings With Us

by Steven Doyle

It feels like we have been doing craveDFW for a decade, but in actuality it has been just over a single year. Collectively we have blasted through more plates of foie, hot dogs, house-made pasta and every imaginable sea critter than you could imagine. It has also been one exciting year for us all.     Continue reading

Morelli’s Gelato Now Available in Dallas

by Steven Doyle

Giuseppe Morelli and his son Mario ventured out early in the day to literally peddle their homemade ice cream on bicycles and would not return until all their cream was sold. Their product was wildly popular in the UK. This was in 1907.

In 1932 the family opened their first ice cream parlor in Broadstairs, Kent and continued to grow their business. Now you can find their gelato  in London, Monaco, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and now Dallas, Texas.  Continue reading

Private|Social Special Luncheon With Chef Tiffany Derry

by Joy Jangles

Before my husband canceled cable on me so I’d stop wasting my life watching endless episodes of Real Housewives and any other soul sucking shows on Bravo, I was an avid fan of Top Chef.  To this day, my favorite contestant has always been Chef Tiffany Derry.  Maybe it was her infectious laugh, or the fact that she was such a genuinely nice person, or how she always cooked with soul and never tried to be something she wasn’t.  She was confident about who she was, always helpful to others, and the fact that she owned the kitchen better than most men out there – it’s easy to see why she’s my favorite.                Continue reading

Win a Ketel One Glass-Blowing Experience

by Steven Doyle

Yesterday I received an interesting invitation to a cocktail event that put me in a roomful of some of the areas best bartenders. The event was hosted by Ketel One Vodka and the objective was to learn more about glassware and how they might affect a particular drink.

Ketel One selected Michael Martensen of Cedars Social to lead the day, make one cocktail and serving it in a variety of glasses to prove the point that the glass is a major influence on the over all experience.     Continue reading

The Beignet Does Dallas

by Jerry Stewart

Laissez les bons temps rouler! The beignet is a humble work horse of a pastry made from pate à choux dough, made up of butter, flour, water and eggs and is also used to pipe éclairs and cream puffs. Except it’s fried. After the pastry has been fried it is covered in an inordinate amount of confectioner’s sugar to bring a smile to the diners face and cover them in the sweet white powder.

We appropriately think to New Orleans for a proper beignet, and most will associate the doughnut with Café Du Monde, who certainly goes through plenty of the pastries along with their chicory coffee. The beignet is the state donut of Louisiana.  Continue reading

Sneak Peek: A Place at Perry’s

by Steven Doyle

We were invited guests last evening at a preview party and fund raiser at the new Place at Perry’s on Cedar Springs. Through out the evening patrons were able to make donations and purchase raffle tickets from wandering servers with Ipads, with proceeds benefiting KIPP DFW.

The Knowledge Is Power Program (KIPP), is a national network of free, open-enrollment, college-preparatory public schools with a track record of preparing students in underserved communities for success in college and in life.  Over 85 percent of KIPP alumni have gone on to college.         Continue reading
