Wachu Tacobot Willis? Lee Harvey’s

By Daniele Leahy       photos by Jacque Manaugh

What is better than good tacos you might ask? How’s this: CHEAP good tacos. Well they don’t come much cheaper than $1 so the next time a case of the Mondays rears it’s ugly head might I suggest making a bee-line to Lee Harvey’s for the chance to eat and drink your sorrows away.    Continue reading

Wachu Tacobot Willis: Avila’s

by Danielle Leahy

Avila’s has been a Maple Avenue tradition in Dallas since 1985. Using family recipes handed down over generations from the Avila and Martinez families their food had been featured on many television programs, local and national news, as well as rated one of the 50 best Mexican Restaurants in the State by Texas Monthly. Most famous for their chicken mole and the brisket tacos, the rest of Avila’s menu is just as good as their more well known counterparts.    Continue reading

Whachu Tacobot Willis? Good2Go

by Danielle Leahy    photos by Jacque Manaugh

Can tacos be Artisan? This question has been rattling around my taco-ladened brain since the Tacobots invaded

Good2Go a few weekends ago. What is above gourmet in the Taco World? How does one classify a taco that goes so far beyond what many consider “specialty” or “restaurant” tacos? Cause whatever that would be is what Good2Go is. Next level stuff. Tacos made by the hands of God a delivered down to mere mortals upon baskets of plastic and aluminum foil.   Continue reading

Wach Tacobot Willis? Chichen Itza

by Danielle Leahy   photos by Jacque Manaugh

La Hacienda Chichen Itza has long been a Greenville Ave staple although it’s often over shadowed by it’s more award winning neighbor, Tacos Y Mas. For the residents of Greenville Ave, this is a tragedy. Not only does Chichen Itza offers a much better quality taco, but with it’s origins as a family run bakery and restaurant Chichen Itza offers a larger selection of traditional Mexican delights on top of the basic street tacos.

With a separate bakery taking up almost equal space in the building, this eatery makes traditional Mexican pastries and desserts on a daily basis. Even at 8pm they still had a nice selection of pan de dulces and various flavored cookies. The cooler behind the pastry case was full of Mexican sodas, juices, and mineral waters with more than one Bot appreciatively signing over the effervescence of their Topo Chico.   Continue reading

The Grapevine Opens Grill

by Shannon Roper

I would venture to say that most people who have a cocktail from time to time in the Uptown area have ventured into The Grapevine.

This all purpose clubby bar features the best  patio that is blocked from vision on the street level, and features a covered outdoor bar and gargantuan television for watching games and episodes of Glee en masse. For those wishing for more rowdier escapades, the compound also features a less than half court basketball court that has a galley of tables along the fence line.   Continue reading

One of the most exciting developments in the restaurant world today is the emergence of the gourmet food truck.
