Pints & Quarts Set To Open Mid April

burgerby Steven Doyle

I reached out to Brooke Humphries (owner of Mudsmith, Barcadia, and It’ll Do) about her new burger resto, Pints & Quarts that will be located on the southwest corner of Ross and Greenville Avnue. This is a tiny building that formerly hosted a small tire shop.

If you drive by the corner you can see that construction has begun on the building, and Humphries is looking at mid April to open this burger stop that will have a “vintage gas station vibe”. Humphries said, “it will be as period correct as we can get it. You know I love that.”  Look for solid fast casual burgers, flat top dogs with a good all-in price point below $10.  Continue reading

Eureka! In Greek Means “I Have Found It”

EurekaExteriorby Andrew Chalk

So said Archimedes, apparently while in the bath, although it is not generally considered to be an anatomical reference. In the modern context, Eureka! is a new eatery, open only about a month, in the new Uptown development 3700M (so named because of its address on McKinney Avenue).

It occupies the highly visible slanted corner facing busy Blackburn and McKinney so we expected it to be discovered quickly. Shrewdly, our media event had been planned for what turned out to be the coldest night thus far in 2015, 28℉, which made concurrent temperatures in Stockholm (37℉) look OK and London, at 52℉, positively balmy. Plus, it was a Wednesday, so we figured we would have our pick of plum tables. Fat chance! The place was packed, and there was even a line. Twenty and thirty somethings had braved the cold to down the food that we were about to discover. Additional customers appeared every few minutes to pick up takeout orders (a bravery award to the bearded guy in the blue t-shirt).  Continue reading

Burger Beat: The Sir

DSC04758by Steven Doyle

Last month Uptown’s Ketchup Burger Bar took on a new patina replete with a name and menu revamp. The popular burger haunt located at 3208 N Hall, just off McKinney Avenue, now has a sleek sexy atmosphere along with a fun bar menu made up of burgers and wings, along with the new name The Sir. The restaurant is still owned by Yaser Khalaf (Souk, Baboush), and is now joined in partnership with brothers Niko and J.D. Ybañez and their friend Ben Scott, a recent contestant on television’s “Bachelor in Paradise”.

The consulting chef is Souk’s Norman Grimm who was looking for a great product at a very affordable price point. The burgers range from a simple cheeseburger, loaded with some pretty terrific bread and butter pickles, to a more outrageous PB&J version with peanut butter and jelly along with bacon and jalapenos. Sounds a bit out there, but excellent in its execution. There is also a loaded burger with a fried egg, and seriously eggs are the perfect burger condiment, apple smoked bacon and fried onion rings.    Continue reading

Haystack Burger and Barley Opens In Richardson

DSC08225by Steven Doyle        photos by Steven Doyle

Recently we published a list of our ten favorite burgers in Dallas. The list included mostly mom and pop operations, some who have been in business for as long as 55 years. In the past few years Dallas has become a Mecca of burgers, which certainly cannot be a bad thing. We all love a good burger, and they are certainly fun to compare and contrast the flavors of beef, bun and oozing ingredients.

Yesterday we paid a visit to a new burger outlet that only recently opened for business in Richardson. Needless to say we loved what we found or you would not be reading this text today. Haystack Burgers and Barley is owned by couples  Kevin and Jenny Galvan and Rob and Christine Wondoloski.       Continue reading

Smashburger Now Pairing With Deep Ellum Brews

DSC06595by Mary Szefcyk

Smashburger, the Denver CO based fast causal concept, opens its eighth  DFW location in Coppell, Texas today. To launch this opening Tait Lifto of Deep Ellum Brewery Co. and Tom Ryan, founder of Smashburger, recently sat down together (and even cooked together) collaborating their Burger Beer Pairing. As Lifto stated last night, “this isn’t just a beer with your burger, it’s a carefully researched paring list that will enhance the dining experience.”  Continue reading
