Get Ready For Session Beers, Dallas

communityby Mark Hooper

Summer is right around the corner, which means “Sunday Funday” will be in full swing, and what better way to enjoy a long day by the pool with family and friends than with a delicious DFW craft beer in your hand?  I’m a hop head myself, and it doesn’t take much for me to catch that buzz we all seek on our days off, which is why the new craze of session IPA’s have been my go-to recently. Thanks to this style’s low alcohol percentage, we can all get our hop fix on and not have to throw in the towel after enjoying a few.   Continue reading

A Lucky Adventure In Beer

luckby Ned Steel

I didn’t want to go.  I didn’t fancy myself as much of a “people person”.  I mean don’t get me wrong, it’s not like I was anti-social or anything but talking to complete strangers about something, even if I was passionate about the subject, was a foreign concept to me.  But I had been asked by a friend to go.  Someone I respected.  Someone that was counting on me to make some new friends.

I drove past the small shop twice before realizing where it was, but that was probably in part because I was looking for a place called Stubby’s rather than what was written up on the marquee, “Texas Brewing Inc.”.  After gathering myself, I nervously made my way inside, looked around the small room filled with tables, beer, and people.  People with anxious eager faces.  I’m not sure what it was that made my switch turn on.  Maybe it was the looks on those faces… eager to please.  Maybe it was that they looked more nervous than I was.  Whatever it was, I felt comfortable in my own skin and caught the eye of one of the fellows in the corner.   Continue reading

Craft Beer and Chili Cook-Off Set For Feb 8 In Trinity Groves

chiliby Steven Doyle

Although this has been an extremely mild winter in North Texas (so far), it is still the best time of year to enjoy a soothing bowl of spicy brick red chili. Look for the first chili cook-off of what the organizers trust will be an annual event in Trinity Groves at the 3015 event complex February 8, 2015 from noon to 5pm. Although not a sanctioned event, the rules are just as stiff with on-site cooking and a minimum of four gallons required for both a people’s choice and a judges panel award.   Continue reading

lamb shankby Steven Doyle

Luck, our happy place in Trinity Groves, celebrated is one year anniversary recently and just this week announced a new Winter menu that will surely cut through the chill in the air. Luck is so amazing not only for its terific local beer program, all sold for an even five bucks, but also has solid food that satisfies at a fantastic price point. This hold true with the most recent menu update.

One the new menu you will find that the side of Brussels Sprouts are back for the Winter. Also back for for some Winter loving is Luck delicious Torta de Lengua. A hold over from the old menu is the shrimp and grits. You can probably find this menu item at most restaurants across town, but this is special and topped with an egg for added goodness.    Continue reading

Rahr and Lakewood Breweries Kicked It Up At Luck Last Night For A Little Beer Week Fun

DSC05453by Steven Doyle

As NTX Beer week continues, last night was definitely a gem in its hat as two beloved breweries came together and made magic happen along with the boys at LUCK in Trinity Groves.

The dinner was nothing short of breath taking, as LUCK understands beer and pairings extremely well. Each course met with a different beer, culminating to a collaborative brew of both Rahr and Lakewoods making.  The meeting of beer minds is nothing particularly new to this industry, but it is always a little special when two local breweries, this time one from Dallas the other Fort Worth, come together and make a special kind of love. This particular brew is a Belgian-style dubbel. Balanced, smooth and malty sweet with a hint of spice from the Belgian yeast.   Continue reading

Luck Is Hosting A Party

revolver_jpgby Steven Doyle

Tomorrow night (July 1) Luck in Trinity Groves will host a little party, and you are invited. They have scheduled Sean Evan, based out of Austin, playing on the patio from 7:30-10pm,  July 1st, along with a special tapping of Revolver’s Fracker Barrel One.

Revolver tells us, “We aged Mother’s Little Fracker stout in French Oak Barrels that previously held Syrah Red Wine made by Granbury’s Barking Rocks Winery. The beer was aged for over a year, then blended with younger stout to create a balanced impression of chocolate, oak and fruit, with a dry finish…Red Wine Barrel Aged Stout – ABV: 7.75% – IBU: 50”.    Continue reading

What’s Eating Your Phone?

Food-photoby Steven Doyle

Not a day goes by where we don’t spot a handful of people in restaurants snapping photos of their catch of the day. It has become a national obsession, and as our phones become better integrated with superior photographic abilities, our handiwork becomes increasingly better. Last week we started a new feature called “What’s Eating Your Phone” where you send us your favorite food shots, and the response was simply amazing. We literally were sitting on hundreds of your photographs within the first hour. If you have an original photo taken by your phone’s camera, please feel free to send it to us for consideration at steven@cravedfw.com. A brief description is always helpful.   Continue reading
