The 2013 James Beard Award semi-finalist nominations were announced today and DFW restaurants had some nods this year. Check out the list below:

Outstanding Chef: Stephan Pyles, Stephan Pyles Restaurant

Best Chef Southwest: Teiichi Sakurai, Tei-An and Jason Maddy, Oak

Outstanding Wine Program: Café on the Green at Four Seasons Resort and Club

Outstanding Service: The French Room at the Adolphus

The Year of the Dog: 10 Best Hot Dogs In Dallas

The month of July brings us higher heat and sunny days. It is a time to grill and be grilled. July is also National Hot Dog Month, so we created a list of some pit stops to grab a great dog. Be it a gourmet version with foie, or a standard with simple mustard and relish, we have your dog fix.

Look for this to turn into the year of the hot dog as there are plenty of gourmet hot dog restaurants setting up shop soon in Dallas. It will be ever as big as the burger wars we witnessed over the past year.     Continue reading

CampO Meets Cedars Social Dinner

Last night some of the staff from Cedars Social did an all-out takeover of the kitchen at CampO Modern Country Bistro. No, this wasn’t coup d’état attempt, we still spotted the new chef Michael Ehlert at the restaurant. This was instead an open invitation from the owners Miguel Vicéns and John Paul Valverde in attempt to bring the two restaurants together.

“I don’t really view us as competition, instead more like communities with so much to offer,” said Valverde at the beginning of the dinner. Whatever the reasoning, it is a brilliant idea to bring in guest chefs and give them a chance to try some things they may not normally do in their own kitchen.    Continue reading
