In 2004 Barbara Martinez invested in a building located in Deep Ellum at 3025 Main Street. At that time her family opened the techno club called Club One. Perhaps you recall the cool venue and very loud music. In 2007 zoning changed to clean up Deep Ellum and Martinez had to decide if she was prepared to go through the annual hassle to remain a club or to reinvent herself. She chose the latter.
In 2008 Excuses was born and the new restaurant sold breakfast and lunch. For breakfast she sold typical breakfast fare including waffles and omelets, and for lunch she made pizzas and sandwiches. Continue reading

Deep Ellum Brewing Company will launch two brand new beers to the market starting July 31st – one is a seasonal and one will join the year-round lineup for DEBC. Yes, “Wealth and Taste” is a Rolling Stones reference (but also an homage to the originator of this style of beer – Duvel. Duvel actually means devil in Flemish) and is a seasonal batch. It was built in two 30 barrel batches – one batch was aged in Chardonnay barrels and one batch went through the normal fermentation process then they were blended together to get the balance they were looking for. Deep Ellum Brewing Company is leaving the state of Texas. Oh, you can still get one of the many fine beers brewed locally at one of dozens of locations across the city of Dallas, and in Austin as well as Houston. But now whenever you travel to Massachusetts you can find the beer on tap.
This week Tait Lifto (Sales and Brand Ninja), John Reardon (Chief Evangelist) and Tommy Miller (Sales and Delivery) will all make the pilgrimage to Boston to plant the texas flag inside a few pubs. The first to pour the Dallas beer is namesake Deep Ellum, a bar in Allston, Mass. that made Draft Magazine’s top beer bars in America list. Continue reading

Check out Austin-based indie-rock band The Rocketboys and their upcoming show at Club Dada in Dallas on June 10. The band is gearing up to tour in support of their forthcoming album, Build Anyway that was released June 5, 2012.. They’re an incredible up-and-coming band who have built great momentum since the release of their debut album 20,000 Ghosts in 2009.
