Down the Hatch

by Steven Lindsey   photos by Rod Orta

Next to Christmas, opening day of the State Fair, and that new-car smell, one of my favorite things in the world is Hatch Green Chile Season. It’s a brief time of year when one of the best food-enhancers in the world reaches its peak. From local grocery stores roasting the fiery suckers to restaurants creating hot new menu creations, Hatch Chiles are a thing of culinary beauty.

And Jorge’s in One arts Plaza is keeping things fresh and simple with two new menu items highlighting the pureness that is Hatch. What I wasn’t expecting was a cavalcade of cocktails courtesy of Nacho, the creative genius behind a new era of creativity behind the Jorge’s bar. The drinks just kept coming. And coming. And coming.  Continue reading

Mainstream Fish Camp Makes Debut

by Steven Doyle

The owners and operators of the large variety of food trucks are quickly making themselves known though out the DFW area, and we are making a point to check in on these new trucks as they make their way onto the scene. This past weekend we met up with the latest truck owner, Kelly Haden, who operates the new Mainstream Fish Camp truck. We had an exclusive first look at Haden’s operation.

If Haden’s name sounds familiar, it should. His family owned TJ’s Seafood located at Preston and Forest before selling off their interests to the Alexis family, and more recently owned Mainstream Fish House at the same intersection opening in 1995. Later Haden sold the fish house to M Crowd in 2004 awhich the group closed in January of 2009.     Continue reading

Taste of Addison in 2D

by Steven Doyle

As chance would have it I made my way to the one-bajillionth annual Taste of Addison which is filled with crazy good food and beverage options from all the Belt Line restaurants on that side of the loop. For those not willing to enjoy a fun day in the sun with a cooling beer or a pina colada served Gilligan style in a whole pineapple, as it seemed thousands did, we braved the beautiful Spring day and ate our way through the gentle masses snapping photos along the way.    Continue reading
