Rhost Opens Quietly And With Aplomb

by Steven Doyle

Rohst, the new Korean-style restaurant on Greenville Avenue has opened its doors, even if it was quietly allowing the staff to shake out any kinks in service before making an official announcement.

The new building that was in the former Terilli’s location has risen from its ashes and made way for a beautiful new structure that although new blends well with the neighborhood.  You may find several nods to the past in the Greenville Avenue Bar and Grill sign planted in front of Rhost, and many photos from the past inside the new restaurant.

Rohst is clean, sleek and inviting inside with a mezzanine level that seats 85 and a rooftop bar that can hold upwards to 100 with a total seating capacity of 400.  Continue reading

Legends Luncheon

(l to r) Brian Luscher, Ewald Scholz, Karl Kuby

by Steven Doyle

Let me first begin with the fact I truly enjoy my work. I get to eat and drink and make merry most days, often with some of the most tremendous chefs that I respect. I get to hear stories, many that will never be repeated as dictated by an unwritten sacred trust. When chef Brian Luscher of The Grape called me and invited me to lunch with a few of the great chefs of Dallas I didn’t miss a beat and merely said, “hell yes.”  Continue reading

Terilli’s and Rhost Nearing Completion on Greenville Ave

by Steven Doyle

Spotting the Deep Eddy  micro bus is always a good thing. The owners of the Texas-made vodka plant the VW all over town. Last weekend you could spot it at the Katy Trail Ice House, this weekend it was in front of The Grape on Greenville Avenue. I am pretty sure if we asked nicely we would be allowed to tool around in the cool vehicle which can only be usurped by the grand daddy of all corporate shill rides, the Wienermobile that is brought to us by the good folks at Oscar Meyer.  Continue reading

Sunday Brunch: The Grape

by Joy Jangles

This week I had the pleasure of interviewing Chef Brian Luscher from The Grape who is sharing his very special recipe for his Country-Style Frittata.  Made from fresh farm eggs, pancetta, broccoli and oven dried tomatoes– this frittata is delightfully fluffy with crispy edges topped with Asiago and creamy goat cheese.   Continue reading

McPherson Leaves Pyles for The Grape

by Steven Doyle

The fast paced world of dining is in a constant state of flux, and there has been plenty of movement as of late within this industry in Dallas. Well over two months ago The Grape lost their sous chef. The venerable East Dallas neighborhood bistro didn’t suffer in their time of being short staffed, but instead chef-owner Brian Luscher sacrificed by working extended hours to make his concept flourish. Continue reading

Brian Luscher: Kitchen Magician

by Steven Doyle

This has been a week of charcuturie it would seem. We paid a short visit to get caught up on the latest at The Grape on Greenville Avenue this week and found Brian Luscher in his kitchen putting the finishing touches on one of his offerings, the Country Style Pork & Veal Terrine with Foie Gras that is on his menu and served with a quenelle of spicy homemade mustard. Continue reading
