by Steven Doyle

Have a need for organic milk, beef or artisan baked goods but not wanting to leave the house or office? We reported on Artizone many months ago and thought nit was time to check in on the unique delivery service.

When we first ran a story on Artizone they had just started out in the artisan delivery business. And in the past few months we have been hearing more positive feedback from readers on Artizone. Since that time so many months ago Artizone has expanded to add a variety of goods including beer and wine.  Continue reading

Get Your Holiday Tickets Early

by Steven Doyle

The holiday season is officially here and no amount of complaining will hold back the rush of pageantry, music and lights, so we all best accept the fact we need to get our shopping complete so we can sit back and enjoy with a cold mug of heavily spiked eggnog.

One thing you may wish to scratch off your holiday list are your theater plans for the season. Last minute hopes of grabbing a great seat to the nutcracker goes unrewarded, leaving the family restless and wanting.

We present your holiday music list below.  If you have additions for us, please direct them our way.  Continue reading

Is Turkey Bowling Good Sport?

by Steven Doyle

Tonight is historically a big drinking night, and who could blame the single masses for trekking out the day before their annual family gathering that often can prove exacerbating. On the up-tick, you will also find other singles while sampling your favorite libation.

Also, while roaming the city you will see your share of activities such as Turkey Bowling. This is a ‘sport’ using a frozen turkey as a ball with the goal to knock over ten pins.

The game is quite popular with bars all competing for the late night Thanksgiving Eve crowd. The sport even has its own lingo such as setting a ‘fowl line’ and breaking a 7-10 spit fondly termed a ‘wishbone’.    Continue reading

by Steven Doyle

The starting bell has chimed and they’re off.  Dallas Beer Week officially begins today and there are plenty of options abound to quench your craft beer thirst.

Actually, the unofficial start was last night at the Anvil Pub with the very first commercial tapping of Deep Ellum Brewing Company’s brew, both their Backslider Blonde and a Double Brown Stout.  The boys at Deep Ellum were on hand to celebrate and there were many revelers  lined up to be the very first to sample their new product.   Continue reading

Laphroaig Visits Lonesome Dove

by Steven Doyle

Last night we were invited to an event in Fort Worth at Lonesome Dove located in the historic Stockyards. The celebration was for the Friends of Laphroaig, a group dedicated to a special scotch whisky hailing from Loch Laphroaig on the south coast of the Isle of Islay in Scotland.

The evening started off as most scotch tastings might, a dram of their 10-year old was passed freely in the crowd and a lot of back and forth with devotees of the brand with the master ambassador, Simon Brooking and distiller John Campbell. Both gentlemen were proud of the whiskys and spoke freely about the process of creating a cask.   Continue reading

Vegan Girl Does Absinthe Lounge for the Holidays

by Melissa Brenner

It’s party season, people! I’ve been to quite a few already, but there are myriad more on the calendar. Problem is none of them have been all vegan. All drinks and no food (celery and carrots on a tray don’t count as alcohol appropriate food, by the way) makes for me needing a ride home.  What are your options for a totally safe for vegan holiday party? Have it at your house or have it at your vegan friend’s house… blah. What if you, like me, prefer to be out and about where all of the fun party energy is flowing? What if you, like me, prefer to leave the set up and clean up to someone else? What if you, like me, prefer your glass items remain intact (unlike the last party at my house)? Here’s your answer: call Miss Lisa Carmen Olson at Absinthe Lounge.

Lisa is the Queen of party planning and always has some great theme that makes the evening even more interesting. Anyone that has attended one of Lisa’s parties knows that nobody leaves without having a good time and making some new friends. Now Lisa is available to plan your party. For your vegan soiree, she’ll take care of all the party details, or just the things you don’t want to deal with, including the vegan catering, theme, decorations and probably even a signature drink for the evening.   Continue reading

Mr G’s in Plano Offering Huge Tasting

by  Monica Rachel

I don’t know how many CraveDFW readers are also avid listeners of The Ticket (1310am), but those who are have probably already heard about a great event coming up this Thursday. While I am a huge fan of Veritas on Henderson and their oft imitated – never duplicated free wine tastings, the event I’m about to tell you about is, in my opinion, one of the best free tasting events in the metroplex. I don’t want to wait until Friday to let people know I was there, that would just be selfish! Here’s the scoop:

Every few months The Ticket’s Hardline (Mike Rhyner and Corby Davidson) broadcast a show live from Mr. G’s Beverage and Deli in Plano. During that broadcast, Mr G’s owner Robert Gartner and his staff pull out all the stops. The fact that this event is free really makes it worth the drive to Plano.   Continue reading
