Dallas Farmers Market Friends Hoedown Lowdown

As I walked into the Food and Fiber Pavilion at Fair Park, my wife looks at me and says “I remember this from last year. Hope this year is just as good.” Last year highlights were Randall Copeland’s AVA and now Left Bank, Matt McCallister (with editor Steven Doyle acting as a sous chef) who was then with Stephen Pyles, and Balcones True Blue corn whiskey from Waco. This year had a lot to live up to.

How can you pass up Mr. Lemley’s tomatoes and other produce? All I know is this guy can grow groceries! We need a moment to savor this food porn.

Oak Cliff Cellars Releases Wine at Special Parigi Dinner

Oak Cliff Cellars is the California wine based in Oak Cliff.  Confused? Don’t be.  Many wineries in Texas are using California grapes. In 2007 the owners of Oak Cliff Cellars opened and are a fully-bonded commercial winery, specializing in small lot production of premium Northern California wines with less than a few hundred cases each of our favorite varietals — Petite Sirah, Zinfandel, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay.

Dallas Beer Week Starts Nov 12

Dallas Beer Week is upon us and craveDFW plans to be your source for all things beer during the coming week leading up to the first events beginning this weekend.  For the past few weeks we have been scouring the city in search of the best places to have a good craft beer during the nearly 90 (and growing) activities planned so far.

We chatted with Cathy Rascoe, the organizer of Dallas Beer Week and she said, “It has been a true labor of love for us and we are really excited that the Dallas craft beer community has embraced it. We really hope to make everyone proud and happy with the results this year and for several years to come.”

Rascoe also was the organizer of Houston’s very successful Beer Week.   Continue reading →

Watch Top Chef With a Top Chef, a Barman and a Guy Named Tito

Last night was a busy yet blustery evening. Many lounges and restaurants were suffering due to high winds, a drastic drop in temperature and sparse rain. We officially accept the fact this is Fall. The change of seasons brings with it many new invigorating experiences. The cool weather, a change in menus for many bars and restaurants, and the new season of Top Chef that aired last night on Bravo. Chefs for Farmers and Dallas Uncorked are excited to present “Mixin’ It Up On the Boulevard 2012.” An outdoor food and wine/spirits celebration to be held May 6, 2012 from 1pm-5pm in the gorgeous Lee Park in Dallas, bringing together local farmers, celebrity chefs, local and national product purveyors, award-winning wines and spirits. Pop-Up 828 Closes in Style

We followed the pop-up charity fundraising lounge 828 over the past few weeks and it seemed only appropriate that we bring you the final photos for the bar from last Saturday evening.

The lounge that was temporarily located at 828 West Davis in North Oak Cliff enjoyed a busy three week run that was hosted by Cedars Social’s Michael Martensen and managed nightly by the unofficial Oak Cliff ambassador, Rob Shearer. The bar was run nightly by Martensen and  Brian McCullough of the soon-to-open Standard Pour. Guest bartenders from across DFW filtered in nightly to lend a hand for the cause.   Continue reading →

Chef DAT Has a 27 Course Dinner Awaiting You

Just caught word from the underground chef himself, David Anthony Temple (DAT). Seems he is celebrating life itself with the largest menu I have seen to date. Twenty seven courses (magical number, same as the name of the restaurant he is designing).

If you wish to make reservations we have the low down. Arrive at 7:30 Saturday night (tomorrow) at Spiceman’s FM 1410 – 1410 N. Fitzhughue in Dallas. Welcome Yolanda Banks

We wish to welcome Yolanda Banks to craveDFW as a new contributer. Yolanda is a mother and culinary instructor who lives in Dallas, Texas. Yolanda has appeared on the Food Network, Good Morning Texas, At Home Live, and various affiliates around the country sharing her passion for food.

In 2006, along with welcoming a baby boy, Yolanda’s first cookbook Cooking For Your Man was published. In 2007, Yolanda launched her business and website, Fresh Is Fabulous.
