Addam’s Family Dinner
Chef Eric Shelton at the State Fair Music Hall just announced his menu for the musical Addams Family which opens October 3, 2012. If you were unaware that the Music Hall even served food you are in for a pleasant surprise. Shelton is not only a fantastic cook, but he also goes to great lengths to pair each meal with the particular musical that is currently running. Continue reading

Helicopter To The State Fair Compliments Of The Palomar Hotel Dallas
As the State Fair of Texas approaches we will start hearing about all sorts of deals and attractions with the Big Tex theme. This one from the Palomar Hotel Dallas is more delicious that a box of Fletcher’s Corny Dogs. They are actually offering two Big Tex packages.
The package for $189, which is a good value, offers a room, DART rail passes to the fair, chef Graham’s triple fried potatoes and cotton candy in the room. Every room gets use of the corporate gold fish regardless. Continue reading

Fried Jambalaya and Fried Bacon Cinnamon Roll Take Top Fair Fried Honors
It’s that time of year again when the State Fair food vendors roll out their deep fryers from storage in an attempt to win the top prize for the wackiest fried food imaginable. Last week we listed the finalists which consisted of eight out of over forty new items being introduced this year. Winning the competition is said to be worth an extra $200,000 in sales to the winner, so the stakes are high and the competition is fierce.
Abel Gonzalez was back and won the top award with his fried jambalaya ball. Abel’s offering had a crispy outer shell filled with a spicy rice, sausage and shrimp mélange with a side of his own kicked up ranch dressing. This is the very same gent who concocted fried peanut butter and banana sandwiches, fried coca cola, fried cookie dough and more recently a win for his fried butter. Continue reading

Mamma Mia! At Dallas Music Hall Until Sunday
More than likely you know the plot and have seen the film adaptation or possibly even the live theater production of Mamma Mia! since its debut in the late ‘90’s. The songs will be most familiar with those growing up in the 1970’s disco era and listened to the endless melodies of the Swedish pop group ABBA.
ABBA has sold nearly 400 million records worldwide and continues to sell millions each year even to this day, so it is no wonder that Mamma Mia! is so successful. Someone is listening. Last night a packed house at the Dallas Music Hall in Fair Park danced in their seats and reveled in the familiar music and sound bites as they were whisked back to a time in Greece just days before a young brides wedding. Continue reading

There are plenty of fantastic events in Dallas tomorrow night and one of them is Vanessa Williams performing at Curtain Call 2012, Honor the Children in the Year of the Dragon, benefiting Dallas Summer Musicals. We have been given two tickets to see Vanessa Williams perform with cocktails, dessert and dancing afterwards for one of our loyal readers to enjoy. Continue reading

Last Week For a Fletcher’s Corny Dog!
As the Texas State Fair continues in its final full week we felt it time to actually try a few Fair staples and venture out onto the Midway with a loosened belt. No visit to the Fair is complete without a visit to Fletcher’s Corny Dogs. We searched around for Gregory True, the manager of the large Fletcher stand that sits perched next to Big Tex, but we were told the 18 year veteran of the Fair was hospitalized and missed the Fair this year. Continue reading

New Foods at the State Fair
The doors are about to open at the State Fair of Texas and we will be in the Creative Arts Building hosting all the celebrity chefs that will demo every day during the Fair. We hope to bring you some great interviews of the chefs, and also interesting behind the scenes stories from the fairgrounds.
With all the fried goodies it will be difficult to stave off temptation, but we will have access to the employees commissary for our daily meals if we so choose. This should be fun because this is where most of the carnies dine.
For those not wanting to dine with the carnies we have a list of all the new treats to sample during this year’s Fair. Continue reading
