Food Truck Sighting of the Day

by Steven Doyle

Food truck sighting of the day would definitely go out to the mobile shaved ice truck which has been insanely popular though out the summer’s beating heat, Enticed.

We spotted their truck today at Strokers, the bikers Mecca on Harry Hines. We can say without hesitation that bikers need love too. Well played, Enticed.

by Danielle Leahy

The Just Us League, a freestyle art squad that meets monthly around Deep Ellum, is currently looking for artists of all walks and styles who would like to get involved in their community art projects and monthly live art Meet-ups.

Komali Serves Traditional Comida Corrida

by Steven Doyle

Recently we had a chance to try out an exciting luncheon option at Komali  that is priced well and served fast, Comida Corrida. This is the traditional table d’hote, a small meal of several courses at a fixed price eaten between about 1 and 4 p.m in Mexico. In the case of Komali, this is a three course prix fixe mid-day meal.

For $14 you get whatever combination they may have served up that day with no substitutions. This enables the lunch diner to get in and out quickly while still having a satisfying and authentic meal.    Continue reading

Tacos are not known for being the healthiest item in the World. This is a common Tacobot lament when viewing another menu full of meat, cheese, and not much else. Thank the Salsa Gods for places like Macho Nacho on Cedar Springs bringing a refreshing and healthier twist to our traditional Tex-Mex favorites. Specializing in locally -sourced produce the menu at Macho Nacho is sure to satisfy a taco-lovers taste without sacrificing all those hard-earned hours in the gym.

Located in the old Hunky’s Hamburgers spot at the corner of Cedar Springs and Throckmorton the small but comfortable space is decked out in crisp white, dark chocolates, and bright orange. Ashley Compton: Dynamite Comes in Small Packages

by Stealing Kitty

Fearless comes to mind when I reflect on an recent hot, summer day spent with Ashley Compton in a large warehouse with photographer Jarrod Fresquez and make up artist, Courtney Crush. The photo shoot captured Compton’s aerial ability, illustrating her strength frame by frame.

Compton impressed us all with laser focus, which was humbling for the voyeurs as the Texas heat began to kick ass. Her flexibility thanks to her yoga teacher training at Dallas Yoga Center; Compton currently teaches yoga at the Ruby Room Monday thru Thursday as well.     Continue reading

by Crave Staff

It’s going to be a Honky Tonk Friday night at the Granada Theater and The Double Wide. Kick off your night with some real American Country music starring Dallas’ own Eleven Hundred Springs tomorrow, August 12th at the Granada Theater. Also enjoy music from Jesse Dayton and Amanda Shires. Eleven Hundred Springs has released eight albums since their 1998 debut. Live at Adair’s Saloon, the band’s 1999 release is considered to be one of the definitive albums of the late ’90s in the Texas music scene.

The party’s not over after the concert. The next stop is The Double Wide for the official After Party. DJ Charlie Don’t Park will keep the country tunes going and don’t forget to try Mama Faye’s BBQ. Keep your Granada wristband on and enjoy the drink specials at the bar.     Continue reading

Ava Hosts San Martino Vineyards

by Steven Doyle

Wine dinners are extremely popular with restaurants and is a simple concept. An ambassador for the winery, often the owner, will pay a visit to a restaurant who will host a special menu for that one evening. Certainly we enjoy these and try to make as many as we can to become more familiar with the wineries and take a more intimate look at the restaurant. Last evening was no exception as we joined the people of Rockwall’s Restaurant Ava for a look at a local Rockwall wine, San Martino.

As I discussed the variety served last night with owner of San Martino, Emilio Ramos, I was pleasantly surprised how perfectly balanced the wines were. Later I had a discussion with Ava’s chef-owners, Randall Copeland and Nathan Tate, and we compared notes. Randall was more familiar with the local winery, but I was not. We both agreed these wines were special.          Continue reading
